Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hi, i'm new!!! From Southern California (Irvine) area.

Hi, this is my 1st post! Just wanted to introduce myself and give some background info.

1. University of California, Santa Barbara Graduate (2004)
2. 23 Yrs of Age
3. Realtor in progress (Re/Max of Irvine)
4. Honda S2000 Lover / Computer fanatic
5. New to road biking...

I have one question though, i know the answer to this question is relative, but i'm a 5'9" frame and i wanna purchase a bike whether it be from SUPERGO or eBAY, and i keep on getting different fitment sizes from bike shops. like 50cm, 53cm, 54cm.. Of course, it's with different bikes and what not.

Any advice on getting an official size?

Thanks!

Orange County: Where to buy bike for good deal? Supergo? any recommendations?

Ok you Orange County folks, i'm looking to buy a bike and i'd like to purchase a bike from eBAY but there's an issue with bike fitment problems cause not all bike brands have the same fitment. (e.g. 54cm on a Trek = 52cm on Specialized.)

Only place i can think of is Santiago Bikes & Supergo. Any others?

Have you looked in the yellow pages under "bicycles" or "bicycle shops"?

I may be wrong but introductions are probably supposed to go in the "INTRODUCTIONS" forum!

If you're unsure on bike sizing you might want to find a shop that knows what they're doing. Supergo and Performance aren't one of them. Nothing wrong with their bikes but 9 times out of 10 the employees are complete bone heads when it comes to sizing someone correctly. Ebay will be like playing craps; you any good at gambling? Oh, and real cyclists pay more for their bike than they do their car so you might want to start looking at a custom Colnago with carbon wheels.

Check out adrenaline bikes in Orange on Tustin ave-they have great deals on great bikes. At your size you will probably be looking at a 54-56cm frame. (BUT get fitted-don't just blindly buy one that size). As Jim or Gregg there to fit you and they will take care of you. 800-579-8932
or 714-288-2012.
The bicycle club of Irvine (BCI) is a very, very active club filled with friendly and knowledgeable folks.

There are a number of shops in this area for you to try. Not everyone who works at Supergo (or Jax, Performance, etc.) is bad however I would say that any salesperson who put's a 5'9 guy on a 50 cm frame is generally bad or trying to get rid of slow moving inventory.

Just for your reference, I'm 5'8" with fairly short legs (29-30' pant inseam) and I ride a Specalized 54cm compact frame. My wife is about 5'7" with longer legs and rides a Trek 54cm.

For a good, professional fitting...try Edge Cycle Sports in Laguna Woods (Moulton @ Ridgeline -- behind the Jack in the Box) www.edgecyclesports.net

Other shops in the area to try...
Jax Bicycles - Culver & Walnut www.jaxbikes.com
CycleWerks - Bristol & Baker (in "The Camp")
Performance - Tustin Marketplace in between The Good Guys and Chicks Sporting Goods
Two Wheels One Planet - Muirlands just south of El Toro
There's also a new shop on Lake Forest near Moulton...I keep meaning to check it out.

There are a lot of shops around...some are more into racing (Laguna Beach Cyclery) and others are for recreational riders. Good luck.

To follow up on what HIP said, I recommend that you immediately leave the country and start traveling abroad cheaply. Don't bring deodorant. There will be plenty of time for that later (and houses, mortgages, wives, etc.). The real estate job will be there when you return.

You won't regret following my advice. Make sure to hit South Africa and Vietnam.
