Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rikulau frames

Anyone have any experience with them? They seem to be well reviewed but hard to come by in the U.S. There is a 931 on ebay right now

Rikulau 931 Road Frameset 540 Synergy Graphics | eBay

And a used 853

Rikulau Reynolds 853 Steel Frameset Size Medium 2015 | eBay

The 931 is especially interesting just because you don't see many stainless frames on the road and seems like a good alternative to Ti (which I've been considering for my next build)

Goodness, never heard of them but those are gorgeous! They are both my size, and if I were in the market (or had the money...) I would buy one, or both.

Yeah both my size too. I have the money but really shouldn't be spending it on more bikes...but they do look nice

Bikes: AristoNYC's PedalRoom

Their frames are made by ORA, the same manufacture who produces the Ti frames for Bikes Direct.

here is the 931:

ORA has a good standing. I have the TI bikes direct frame and its great, especially for the money.

Ah ha, good info. I have also been considering the Moto Ti frame. I wish BD would sell the ORA 853 frame but I think one of the other members emailed them about that recently and BD said they would never have high end steel frames again (they did have some 853 bikes in the past)

Yes, but keep in mind that 931 is not Reynolds top stainless tube steel in the 953 is about 50% stronger. Not a big deal. Jus' sayin'.

yeah, I know it's not 953..but still cool. But now that I know it's ORA and I could get a Moto Ti frameset with headset and fork for $1099 or less on Bikeisland I would lean toward that. Of course that is if I could actually remove the Moto decals which some people say is easy and others say is impossible

It's titanium?... and you can't get the decals off. Buy a belt sander. What's the issue?

Here's a blog post I found from Genesis bikes who also seem to get their frames made by ora:
A Very British Engineering Challenge Pt.3 - Who, what & how (...bloody much)? | Genesis Blog | Genesis Bikes

Maybe we should organise a group buy as the minimum order direct from ora is 10 pieces.

Thats been suggested here more than once but nobody could get enough people to buy the minimum ammount of frames.

Some people said scotch brite pad and elbow grease is all it takes but some people have said they might be clear coated over. I think it depends on the particular year as they have changed slightly

my motobecane cross ti with the logos removed (apparently it voids the warranty)

I used "goo gone" and some persistence to remove it. no scotchbrite.
