Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Torn between two helmets

Looking for a new helmet. I am torn between the Giro Synthe and the Catlike Mixino. I have tried both on with equal comfort. Opinions appreciated.

Go by feel and/or comfort. If tied, go by looks. If still tied, go by price.

The Catlike is one ugly, corny looking helmet.

They are both ugly but the Catlike takes ugly to a whole new level.

I see you're somewhere in the Southeast, so I would say go for whichever helmet you think has the best ventilation.

Not that all helmets aren't stupid looking to some extent, but the Catlike Mixino is extraordinarily fugly.

The catlike looks like a bunch of empty eye sockets. Really creepy. I have the Giro synthe and find it very confortable. If you find the non mips version, the price is about 100

I have a Synthe MIPS and after a recent crash, bought another.

And then there's the crowd that says not to wear a helmet.

That's the way I would advise.

I just looked up the Cateye Mixino. I'd take the Giro all 7 days of the week.

Bikes: A really light one and a really heavy one.

Love my mixino helmets. All helmets look stupid, the mixino is just a different stupid. All cycling outfits look stupid. If you think my helmet looks more stupid than yours, that's ok, you still look stupid!

You keep telling yourself that and it will be okay.

Yes and let's add to it. Anyone who thinks they look good in their cycling skippies, IS STUPID! Or, as Mr. Jefferson said (on South Park), "Allegedly, allegedly!!! You're ignorant."

Aww. I planned on wearing my bibs to the beach this summer to attract women.

Bikes: N+1=5

Two things I require in a helmet other than comfort:

1. Has to have MIPS. After a lot of research on this and family experience with TBI, this is well worth any premium.

2. I have to be able to scratch my head through the vents. Drives me nuts if I can't.

So the helmet I have is the POC octal MIPs. Highly recommend it. I wouldn't buy either of the helmets suggested.
