Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ksyrium and Open Pro Value Question, Need Input

I donate my time to a church charity bike ministry. Recently we received a donation of two, brand new wheelsets. Both of these appear to be from around the 2005 to 2007 era. One is a Mavic Ksyrium Elite road set with Shimano compatible freehub. It's black in color and this set predates the scalloped rims, i.e. the rims are not scalloped like the current Ksyrium Elite rims are. (If anyone knows when Mavic made the change to scalloped rims, I'd appreciate them posting that info).
The second set is Mavic Open Pro with Ultegra hubs in silver. Both sets are brand new, never had a tire mounted, but not the latest design. IMHO, the Ksyrium design makes a difference but I'm not sure it's such big deal with the Open Pro set. The hubs for the Open Pro appear to be 6600 or 6700 and are silver.
I've got an idea what we should sell them for, but I'd like to see what others have to say. We want to sell them and want to price it accordingly.
Thanks for your input.

How are you planning on selling them? It'll make a difference.

I'd price the Open Pros around $300. Current models seem to go for 315 to 325 on ebay. Older models would be less but being sold for a charity should add a little premium.

I just sold a brand-new set of Ksyrium Elites that came with a 2015 bike for $450, so I don't think you will get more than that for the older version. One thing you may want to look into is that I thought I heard somewhere that the hubs on Ksyrium wheels were somehow 11-speed compatible even before 11-speed Shimano/SRAM became a thing. Not sure how that works, but it would be a selling point if you can show that an 11-speed cassette will mount on those.

I would ask about $200 for the OP/Ultegra set, old guys like me remember them fondly (just put new tires on the ones on my old Trek 5500).

Good point. If I sell them, I'll use CL. However, I'll give the groups I ride with first shot at them before I list them. If we believe we can get substantially more on ebay, we may go that way but someone else in the group will have to handle the sale as I have a buy only account.
