Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano 105 1055 shifter hoods

I have these old school shifters on my bike and I love them. Unfortunately the hoods have gotten old and sticky and I can't seem to find replacements on the web. Does anybody know where rubber hoods that would fit this can be found?

keep searching eBay on a daily basis. NOS hoods for those shifters are rare. It's probably easier to find lightly used shifters of that vintage, than NOS hoods.

Thanks, and also on this topic does anybody know how to get those darn gear cables out? I got myself stuck because I don't see a way to thread them out.

That doesn't make it right. Those are hoods for brake only levers, not STI "brifters".

If the chain is on the small cog , depress the lever and you will be able to push your cable out . And , Noodle Soup is correct , the hoods pictured in the link will not work on your STI shifters . Hope this helps , and good luck !

Thanks! And do you mean depress as in pull it like I am trying to brake?

Edit: I watched a video on youtube with a similar shifter. It appears that I should be able to push it out the side of the shifter? But when I look in that hole on mine, the cable is wound downwards on the inside even though I've shifted to the lowest?

Yes, you should be able to remove / install from the side . Hit the paddle a few more times to try and get to the "home" position.

If it still won't then I assume the shifter itself is broken?

Not necessarily . I would post this in the mechanics forum, they will be able to help you, more so than I .
