Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Strava...what is going on?

I've been using Strava for a year. In the beginning it was a PITA to upload rides. Eventually uploads became "normal." Why, I don't know. It was strange because it seemed like something on the Strava site changed rather than something I was doing. For a year everything was OK. About a month ago I started having these intermittent issues where I would upload and get a message that everything was complete. Then the ride wouldn't show up on Strava for an hour or two. This past Saturday my ride wouldn't upload to Strava. I get the Garmin Edge 200 dialog box that shows activities and when I click on that it shows my rides as being there. But, no Strava dialog box saying it has been uploaded and nothing on the Activity Feed. So, I shoot a message to Strava Support and get a return email saying they're going to check out my issue. Today is day 4 of nothing and no more responses from Strava. WTF is going on? And, how do I make it right.

So to be clear, you're using Garmin Edge 200? -- and syncing the edge with garmin connect? Then Garmin Connect is handling the syncing between Garmin Connect and Strava right?

With my edge 200, I've always uploaded the fit file by clicking "upload new activity" then select "from file" and choose the relevant .fit file from the storage on the device itself.

You may want to try re-linking your Strava account with Garmin Connect.

Mine does that sometimes and I just close Garmin and log back in, that seems to take care of it. It only happens on my laptop, not on the PC....

It seems to me that too many people are overly focused on Strava and the segments that they overlook the joy of the ride.

Yeah, attaboy! Go git 'em! Hahahaha!

To the OP, if you are using GarminConnect but don't have some need to, I'd second the suggestion to upload to Strava directly from the device. Plug the unit in, open Strava, go through upload file and navigate to the Garmin's activities file and select the ride file. That's pretty bombproof and requires little futzing, but I also detest GarminConnect, so I avoid it anyway.

FWIW - It may not be limited to Garmin Connect. I'm a Polar device and Polar Flow user for training purposes with a sync to Strava. My Friday ride didn't synch until last night or this morning, my Saturday run didn't synch until Monday, though my Monday ride synch'd properly.

That is exactly what I have been doing. And, until last Saturday it's worked for the past year.

Why is Strava support not responding since their first email? Are they that bad?

Strava is extremely glitchy, and has a ton of minor issues. It doesn't surprise me they aren't responding to you.

The fact that I'd like to be provided the service for which I pay suggests to you that I've overlooked the joy of the ride?

I was not referring to you, your post or your ride..... just making a general comment about a trend that I find disturbing, riding for Strava rather than for fun. I got a little caught up in the Strava segments but never went out "segment hunting" as many do. Once I realized that Strava is best as a motivational tool and for record keeping, the fun in my rides came back.

I'm sorry that I didn't make my point a bit more clear, as in rereading it, I can see you point.

Dude...I am Strava Premium. I had a ticket open for 9 days and not a word from them. I finally just marked the ticket as closed. When they sent me a survey, I put exactly how I felt. Essentially, if something better comes along, I'm gone the day it is released.

I use both Garmin Connect and Strava but haven't linked the accounts because I don't need one more thing to be a pain. I haven't had any issues uploading to Strava directly through the device.

I actually searched and got a phone number for Strava Support. When I called I got a message saying it was no longer in service.

Thanks you for the clarification. I use Strava as a motivational tool too. If I need to practice climbing, for instance, I will pick a Strava segment since it logs my results and allows me to see progress...or not.

garmin connect linked to strava always works for me, direct uploading via strava app on the phone is glitchy like you are noticing. Maybe try that instead

I also tried that. And, I just tried it again. No luck. And, no help from Strava. I think I can safely say "Strava sucks."

I disagree completely. I've used Strava daily for years (always uploading from an Android).

I consider it one of the most reliable apps I've ever used.

Over the last few weeks, syncing between Garmin Connect and Strava has been spotty for me too. I can't imagine this is a Strava issue, but is likely a Garmin Connect issue. Strava has always been rock solid for me.

I upload any rides missed during syncing manually from within Strava.

Well I don't use the app, I upload my rides from my Garmin TCX files directly to the website. The app may be different, but the website is a crapshoot in terms of what kinds of issues will pop up.

Usually the first thing I check is the Garmin Connect status page. When your rides aren't auto synching with Strava, more often that not it is because Garmin's 3rd party push API is down.

Generally Strava is pretty reliable for me, although some times it can take 15-20 minutes for a ride to calculate.

Used my Note 4 for 18 months with no issues. Then the phone updates to 6.0.1 and can't record a ride...Strava stops after about 5 miles (power saving mode is off.) Anyone else having issues with Marshmallow?

I've had tons of issues with Marshmallow. I have a Nexus 6P.

I think it's Bluetooth related. GPS would flake out mid ride, rides wouldn't upload, etc etc etc.

I now turn BT off on my phone and when I am done with a ride I hit stop on the Garmin, turn BT back on, wait for the devices to connect, then save the ride on Garmin.

No more flaking out, rise uploads every time (except once, and I think it was a Garmin connect issue).
