I do little touring, though I sometimes do long rides in remote or rough places. I wanted a smallish accessory to carry an assortment of tools and spares, small medical kit, spare light for night rides,a few snacks, and whatever personal things I might like to bring along. This has proven to be a good size for me but I still might buy a pannier some day for occasional use.

Has anyone had a problem with a "ticking" noise? I thought it was the BB, but nope. May chance it is because of the long seat post?

GeneO 11-27-17 04:56 PM

I just started noticing a ticking noise every once and a while. I was thinking it was part of the drivetrain/Di2. Dunno, didn't sound like BB or seat post.

I get a ticking noise sometimes but not every time I'm in third smallest rear ring and the large front ring. No other gear combination. Strange.

Finally!

Here it is my Roubaix 2017 "project". It is the Expert model, with some changes:

- Ultegra Di2 R8000
- Dura Ace brake disks
- Flat Sworks carbon handlebar
- CLX 32 wheelset
- Rotor Q rings (52/36)
- Quarq Dzero crankset powermeter

Nice. How much does it weigh now?

8,2kg / 18 lbs frankly, I thought it would be ligther (I have to do it again, maybe the scale wasn't properly calibrated.

How do you like those wheels? Have you had any issues with the ceramic bearings?

Well the weight is only secondary :)

Still too early to tell, just rode this Saturday and the weather was totally dry.

Love what you have done so far. Curious, why did you change the brake disks? Weight savings? or looks or both? I like they way they look, but was curious. It it is weight savings, how much?

I recently got an 2018 Roubaix Expert Ultegra DI2, and am looking for a little weight savings.

I mounted the raised handlebar + 1.5cm of the roubaix on the new tarmac sl6 but I can not figure out how it should be oriented because the profile of the handlebars is not circular and the mechanic has mounted it so that the even part where they rest their hands is a little inclined towards the back, but should not it be parallel to the ground? how did you mount it? do you have any photos that can be useful to me?

This is the carbon/orange/charcoal color. I picked up the Road Kit (bottom frame triangle) half-price from another rider. Have a custom frame bag ordered from Rogue Panda to replace my well-worn Jandd.

Updated pic with the Rogue Panda custom partial frame bag. Great daily rider setup, bag is yellow inside so contents can readily be seen. Enough capacity to ditch the seat bag, unless substantially more capacity is occasionally needed (good space for limb warmers, extra gloves).
Liking the 4-Season 28s. 700 smooth miles and feel right-sized vs OEM 26s. Settled in at 80/85psi, less ~10 on occasional gravel.
Considering a set of the 32 Panacer GK SKs shown by another rider's previous post to ride mostly gravel for awhile this winter. Hoping to reduce exposure to distracted drivers.
Has anyone found a wider tire that fits the '17-18 Roubaix's?

Is it just me or are those brifters the most hideous things you've ever seen in your life?

Hi Everyone,

First time poster here thinking about taking the plunge with my first drop bar bike for my work commute on Melbourne's lumpy bike paths. I currently ride a franken-Sirrus flat bar (efficient enough but really is too big for me), but I am finding myself looking for more hand positions and the ride is pretty jarring, which I struggle to cope with especially when riding home after a hard day.

I am considering a 2018 Roubaix Sport having read all the positive reviews, both on the various interwebs and on this thread, as my intro to the joys of a drop bar bike and to ease the fatigue loading on my arms, etc.

I was hoping to pick the collective brains of the knowledgeable members here regarding sizing. Most tools I have used put me on a '53' ideal size, I am currently inclined towards a 52 Roubaix, but read that (somewhat counter-intuitively for this MTB'er) that the larger size will yield a more relaxed position?

Intended use is a 17km commute (one way) with the occasional social ride. I measure 5'8" (174cm) and have a 31.8in (81cm) measured inseam. I also have shorter than average arms (always have to get shirts with the 2in shorter sleeves) and cannot touch my toes, so not so great on the flexibility front.

Any views, guidance and suggestions are most appreciated.

P.

On my Roubaix, it's parallel to the ground. Odd that your mechanic tilted it that way, I wonder what's his reasoning.

The handlebars are expert vs. comp. I don't know the difference. Same with stem - they are different.

Hmm, how is the Expert saddle nicer than the Comp? I see on Spesh website and the only difference between Phenom Expert and Comp is on the rails.

The expert has a low friction edge complete around it, including the nose and cutout, that I believe will also protect the saddle cover. My comp saddle that came with my Diverge was tearing a bit at the nose after ~ 3k miles). The Expert is just constructed a little better I think

I am assuming the comp that came with the bike is the same as the retail version.

Hey all - I recently picked up a slightly used 2017 Roubaix Elite. Hate the looks, but can't argue with the ride quality. This thing is a gamechanger!

This may have been covered ad nauseum already, but I want to clarify before I take the plunge. I want to upgrade the stock Axis Elite Disc wheels to something lighter and deeper. Question is, will any aftermarket disc wheelset fit (assuming 12x100F, 12x142R thruaxle)? Or do I have to be concerned about the whole SCS "standard"?

Im looking at the Roval's for $750. While looking those numbers seemed to be the standard for road disks, it was just centerlock vs 6 bolt.

Yes, that should fit most disc thruaxle road bikes on the market. But at some point, Specialized had this SCS (short chain stay) thing going on where, as I understand it, the rear dropout spacing was not standard. So there have been versions of Rovals in SCS, and non-SCS trim. I just want to understand if the current Roubaix are SCS or not. I've seen people run Zipp Course wheels on the new Roubaix, so I'm guessing this bike is not of the SCS variety. Just want to make sure from the informed folks in this thread.

All the current generation Specialized bikes use standard 12x142 and 12x100 spacing. And all their wheelsets (except maybe the $250 Axis 4.0 SCS) use standard spacing.

English not being my first language, would you be kind enough to tell me what «brifters» are?
Have a good day and a nice ride!
