Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

After a month-long wait, I finally have it all together. I ordered it back in the middle of April, but my LBS didn't have stock in blue and said that it may be mid-May until Cannondale manufactures a 54cm in blue and ships. Lo and behold, the bike came in a week later, but my order for the Eggbeater SL's hadn't come in yet, and I was due to leave for a 2.5 week trip to France and Italy at the end of April after my exams.

The pedals and my Shimano Ultegra calipers arrived while I was over in Europe, and so the first thing I did when I got home was take it all to the shop to have them install them. At this point, I still had no shoes, which meant another day of waiting while they ordered a pair of Sidi Zetas in 42 silver in.

The waiting was worth it. Took it for my first serious ride today (30km loop down to Parliament and back) and couldn't be happier. I thought that tiny little SLR saddle was going to kill me, but it seemed to properly support my sit bones and my bike shorts took the edge off. I figure it'll take about a week for either the saddle or my arse to break in. I know I've already posted in the "what road bike do you have" sticky thread, but I had to share my joy at joining the roadie club. Coming from riding an early 90's Marin Bear Valley with 1.5" slicks that must weigh at least 25 pounds, I couldn't be happier.

I'll go easy with pics since the rest can be found in my other thread:

Nice bike. R700 is a great value in the C'dale line-up with the CAAD 7 frame. Good hill climbing bike with the stiff BB.

That seat is pretty low. Are you trying to tippy toe on the ground while still in the seat?

Nope. I can stand with my feet flat on the ground with the top tube just grazing my nether-regions. I took the post out yesterday to adjust the fore-aft on the saddle and probably didn't put it in at it's exact height from before. I'll likely raise it a bit on my next ride.

Gah, I got all obsessive-compulsive and went out and changed the saddle height. Original pic has been edited.

And I *had* considered getting the blue SLR saddle, but the shades didn't match

Eew. If it's not the same blue, then definitely no. In which case I like the black tape.

Even the cages aren't *perfectly* matched, but it's close enough. I'll get all poseur on it another time with another upgrade

I saw those at my LBS and thought about it, but the Ciussi's still look pretty good; they're just a little darker than the blue of the bike.

Woah, maybe its the lighting but that blue looks different from mine, much lighter shade. Very cool looking, love the tires.

It's the lighting. I had my camera's flash on to fill in some shadow, which made it come out a bit on the light side.
