Are you using a SKINSUIT and AEROBARS? Those will give you at least 8 kph AVERAGE.
Thanks for asking. |

Sure. If your inquiry is really serious, you will get better feedback from cyclists where you ride and not on the forums.

It sounds like you're ready to pin on a number and find out.

I saw a video on Naveen John, he is an Indian professional cyclist. But he talks like an American (I think he went to university in usa).

There is only one real answer: pin on a number and compete. |

How many watts?
Since it was only a 20 minute ride, that would be close to your FTP. |

i would ask your coach if it's good progress or not. He'd probably know better than a bunch of old men in lycra in the 41. However, there are mountain descents here where i can average 70kph+ in 13km... So it's relative.

Hey guys, listen up. Harassing and trolling fellow users is a serious offense. You individuals have no right to judge someone and decide their post is a troll or unworthy. If you don't see a thread as worthy of your serious participation you have the option to go away to a thread you like better. But you do not have the option to harass anyone, particularly a new member.
If you find a user is breaking forum rules or being disruptive, please report it and we will investigate it. But you have no right to take matters into your own hands, that only puts YOU at risk of a violation. And I'm weary of having this same conversation once a month. |
Chapeaux!

Otherwise, "good" vs "bad" is subjective based on your own goals, and how you measure "improvement". |
The really top guys would be doing 55+kph. Very fast would be 50kph.
40kph for a 16 year old is not bad and certainly would be faster than most of the people posting here. The UK has a long tradition of time trialling and the shortest distance they usually do is 10 miles (16.1km). A random look at the results for one club ride shows 40kmh would place you in the top third of riders. But the scary thing is that according to bikecalculator.com you'd need 242 watts to do 40kmh but a staggering 440 watts to do 50kmh. You need 80% more power to go only 25% faster. That's the thing with aerodynamics, you need a lot more power to go a little bit faster. It's also why average speed is not as useful as power meter data when assessing how good a rider is. |
with 6 months of riding I think that's a great time. Don't listen to the trolls here they are just jealous.

When it comes to time trailing, average speed is way more important than power in determining how good a rider is. That is why the lowest time wins, not the highest average power.
Conversely, its highest average power, and not lowest time, that gets you on the podium in Paris. |
