Can you give me a real world example of a useful button that's missing from a touch screen? Start, stop, and lap cover 80 % of what I want, the rest is usually something to do with the map, which I can do while I ride if it's a touch screen.
But we all ride differently and some people do unique things with data. So I always like hearing about how other people approach it.

I have not used a TS unit aside from briefly playing with my buddy's 520 while trying to get a route on it for him, so I don't have an example of a useful missing button, but I wonder about changing pages? Say if coming off a climb where you were using an ascent and grade % page, can every TS unit change pages back to say a speed/hr/power/ride time page?

Changing a page on a touch screen is just swiping your finger across sideways. It can be anywhere on the screen to do it. Faster and easier than pushing a digital or physical button, and you keep both eyes on the road while you do it.

I don't doubt that's true (for most circumstances), but there is no page button on touchscreen units?

I think I would miss being able to change pages with a swipe. Otherwise, I'm not positive I would miss the touchscreen. And I rarely change pages.
I have a friend that always runs two GPS units. I keep telling him that a man with one GPS unit knows where he is while the man with two is always lost, but he doesn't see it that way. Maybe I'll get an elemnt and run it in parallel with the Garmin and see how lost I get.

I have an ANT+ Bontrager computer (no GPS) that lets me have the map on the GPS and use the cycle computer to display other data.
But even with using two, it's not hard not to be "always lost" (Maybe, that's supposed to be funny). If it works for him (no reason why it shouldn't), he wouldn't see it that way.
If one is worried that one might fail, it might not be a bad idea to run 2 and ignore one.

Blast from the Past
On my 510 this is a major pita. I have a different screen for intervals with less clutter. Swiping to change is 50/50. Or it sees the swipe as a touch and goes to the menus. Then touch arrow to change screens, which doesn't always work or jumps two menus. Then touch to go back to screen, which it sometimes sees as a swipe...

This computer is going to make choosing a computer more difficult. For me, the choice was 520 or 820, but with this out now, my choices have increased. The Black and White screen is attractive due to contrast, and setting up the Bolt on my cellphone is actually a plus for me as setting up Garmin has always been a pain. Of course though, I am also looking at grabbing the Vector 2 pedals and using the Bolt would reduce the functionality of the pedals...but not sure that would necessarily be a game changer for me.

Ah, ok...I guess there is a suite of post-ride data analysis which various Garmins offer; I forget about that because I look at the post ride data on Garmin Connect or Strava, not on the head unit. I would suspect you could get that analysis by exporting the ride file from Bolt and importing at GC (GarCon, not GoldenCheetah), but I don't have Vectors so I don't know what all goes on there.

The additional ride data is honestly not a deal breaker though. The decision to go for the pedals was for the ability to read L/R information mainly.

I'd be curious to know if the ride file data on the Bolt would contain that information. Does the ride file contain all the raw data or only the raw data that the Bolt is capable of reading.

For example, if Torque (a power data component) spikes while cadence drops, maybe that could be read as a likely indicator of standing.
In any case, there is no seat sensor, so all that can be done to determine whether you are standing is look at available data.

It's actually not that bad. I've been using them on the regular Elemnt since last year and the map is detailed enough to tell which street to turn onto without a problem really (at least where I ride). Also, if you import routes from RidewithGPS you do get street names that pop up on the turn-by-turn directions (and in the cue sheet).

Me too!
I could not manage to order direct from Wahoo, however, despite trying multiple times. I ended up purchasing through CleverTraining, although it said "expected late March," so I don't know when it will arrive. The Wahoo site did say expected shipping was 4/4, so hopefully CT will correspond with that date, if not sooner.

I was just reading the BOLT instructions, and they indicate that, with the companion smartphone app, users can add, delete, and update map packs, so maybe there is (or will be) the option to have more detailed maps than the base pack.

It certainly is not a thing. It is barely hanging on. But it is the most modern "major" OS and can double as a TV tuner/computer like no other. I have T-Mobile, unlimited data. We watch Hulu, Netflix and plug in the HDMI. Can also use as a thin terminal. Then the interface is just faster to get to anything than Android or iOS.

I got it and the computer is great. Friday auto upload to strava was perfect. Some sort of update happened Saturday and my afternoon ride will not sync to strava and live tracking doesn't work. Looks like the update wrecked it
