Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

But you're in Houston. I wouldn't expect to see many Brooks leather saddles in Houston or Jacksonville. Brooks' leather saddles don't like your climate. You are geographically selected against seeing many of them.

I think that I need to see some Venn diagrams here. Between serious cyclists and Brooks riders, are we talking barely touching, major overlap or encapsulation?

But I wasn't using a Brooks, so now I don't know what to think anymore.

Hell, even I don't like my climate, but you see me out riding. Why would a Brooks saddle be any different?

Bikes: ...a few.

I have a B17. Picked it up cheap just to see what the big deal is. Rode on it on my commuter for a couple of week. It was okay. Twas no more or less comfortable than the Spec Body Geo I had on it, but it was a hassle to put a plastic bag over the leather saddle the couple of times I locked it up at the grocery store in the rain. So I went back to my Spec saddle.

So I own one, but don't use it.

I suspect there are places where you never see a Trek bicycle. Come to think of it . . . .
Ok, in your experience, what percentage of Brooks saddles do you see and where?

But my anecdotal experience in West Virginia, California, Western North Carolina, and Virginia has been the same has been the same.

And I even owned one once.

In that case, I think that we need to work 'cat hauling' in to the Venn diagram, too.

Bikes: GUNNAR CrossHairs / Riv RoadUno / TrekBike 950

Got a Brooks B17 (i think) on my commuter / tourer / beater bike. It's pretty good.
Got a Selle Anatomic NSX on another bike. It's nice, but requires lots of tightening before it doesn't. Then the edges flare a bit. Still pretty comfy.
My current favorite plastic/pleather/non-biodegradable bike seat is the SERFAS TEGU. I can ride it with out padded bike shorts. But when riding w/ bike shorts on my formerly speedy road bike I've got a Bontrager something or other. It's fine for a formerly speedy bike.
hmmm... seriously too much info...

I wonder where? Maybe Belgium? There should be a law there, only Made in Belgium bikes allowed, and threaten all manufacturers 30% tax if it is built in America.

I wouldn't mind being forced to ride a Ridley Helium, of course with made in Belgium saddle, so that throws out Brooks.

While I don't think they suite every bike out there, they fit me any my bikes well. I enjoy rebuilding bikes vintage and my B17 has been on two bikes, My Professional on two, and my VO leather saddle on two as well. All three saddles are still in service which ever bike, the B17 is on my main ride.

I ride in a club with 800 members, maybe 200 ride seriously. Have not seen a Brooks on any ride for the last 10 years.

Quite the numbers, 0/800 x 10 years. Your area, clearly needs some serious cyclists. May have to import some from Boston collegiate fixie hippies or maybe CA?

there does do be a very interesting demographic of Brooks users (perhaps NSFW, if you got really strict standards)

Still not as good as Carl's Jr advertisements. Anorexic models not eating the burger. I would watch a reality TV show.

Must eat 3,000 calories of Carl's Jr burgers everyday for 3 months.
No vomiting allowed
No Yoga or Pilates or any trendy exercise allowed

No supplements or weight loss product use allowed.

I was trying to find the Brooks ad of the girl riding naked. Google image search didn't pull it up.

I'm glad that REI has the sense to let you know that the best use for a Brooks C13 is cycling.

How does a carbon railed saddle weigh so much, and why do they feel the necessity to point out the cotton is organic? What is inorganic cotton?

Seriously...Probably non-GMO cotton grown without pesticides, etc. Still, it does sound like a marketing gimmick. It's not like you are going to eat your saddle.

The saddle isn't vegan, so no eating.
