S-Works Roubaix: Any things to tweak in the default setup?
 

Hello! Long time lurker, finally joined.

I have decided to get the new S-Works Roubaix to replace my 2005 Roubaix (the frame is the only thing that hasn't changed, all other components were upgraded at various times over the years).

My initial thoughts are to just go with the default SWorks options for saddle and tires and sort it out later.

• Saddle: I have Brooks Cambium C17 on my existing bike, the SWorks has the S-Works Phenom GT.
  
• Tires: I have Conti GP 4000S II Black Chili 700x25 on my existing bike vs S-Works Turbo 2Bliss Ready 700x26

Pedals: I now have the Ultegra PD-6800. Will stick to this given marginal difference with Dura-Ace.

Also planning on swapping out the 11-28 cassette with 11-36, this has worked for others, so I'm not expecting any surprises.

Thoughts? Any thing else I should watch out for? These forums have been a huge wealth of very useful info :thumb:

Saddle: Make sure a 143mm saddle is right for you. I do not understand how Specialized will sell you a $10k bike but insist you take the 143mm saddle width.

Tires: You're on the right track, in my humble opinion. I switched immediately to GP 4000 S II 28s when I got my Roubaix Expert UDi2; I rode on the Turbos for 20 test ride miles and found them to be just fine, but you can't beat those Conti's. The 28 fits with just a hair of clearance.

Stack height: Make sure your LBS knows how to alter the stack height, and that you get it set up right. If things are done in the wrong order, bad things can follow. FutureShock: As for the suspension, personally I found the yellow 40lb spring to be the best of them, and that is the spring which should be installed by default, but have them swap them out so you can try each one before you take it home.

Lastly, availability on the S-Works model seems problematic. The Pro model isn't much better. If you're lucky enough to find either, I'd jump on whichever you find.

Everything is pretty much spot on in this post except one thing. Your S-Works Roubaix comes with 2Bliss tires. I say give those a try, you might like them quite a bit more than the GP4000sII. I went tubeless a few months ago and wish all my bikes were and I am sure that the 2bliss is much better than the Giant Gavia SLs I am on.

Sounds like you bought the complete bike? Would a better option be frame + your preferred components? IMO it doesn't make sense to pay for the stock stuff Olof you plan to replace immediately.

Just the cassette ...

Keep in mind the Phenom saddle on the Roubaix will have carbon rails so the seatpost clamp will not work with your Brooks. The carbon saddle has 9mm rails while I ASSUME your brooks has 7mm rails.
