Fork mount roof rack: Lock? Xport?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fork mount roof rack: Lock? Xport?

So, im in the market of a roof rack for 2 bikes. I have decided of a fork mount, but i am still in more guidance. whats your opinion on locks of the fork? is it really needed? how often do you leave your bike unatended on your car? I also seek any opinions of the performance brand of xport and their roof racks. Looks like a decent price.

Thanks in advance

I have the Xport rack for my truck bed. It's nice and the price was right. It feels solid and secure and installed easy. I've only had it for ~2 months but I'm pleased with it.

As for locking, I usually bring a cable lock and park where I can see it. It might just be the paranoid Yankee in me that just doesn't trust my baby to Southern kindness.

All the name brand fork mount tray racks are effective. I love mine. I opted not to go with a locked design as all locks can be easily defeated if not vandalized trying. My rule is never to let my best bikes out of my sight. If you travel...the bike(s) comes down off the rack and into the hotel.
Cheers,
George

The locks on most of the racks only work well enough to slow someone down... They are fine if say you stop to get a bite to eat somewhere or whatever, but I would never leave a bike overnight on top the car....

I bought the performance roof rack (fork mount) for my old 87 SAAB 9000 and have stayed with the rack when I moved up to my Jetta. Works great, no complaints.
