This is very respectable. What is your sleep schedule like?

May I ask, do you have a routine with regard to the ride? I'm assuming you vary the route, but are you going hard/doing intermittent intervals, a climbing here and there, what does a typical week of rides yield in terms of routes/feet climbed/total miles?

Hope that raccoon got the worst of it.

I am nothing special with my rides as I average about 120 miles per week and pretty much the same routine everyday except from Dec to April when I live in Sri Lanka and there I ride all over the place in the terrible heat and humidity. Think most elevation i ever climbed was about 1850ft in Sri Lanka but here in ohio where I live it is pretty flat but terrible winds most of the time..I am in it for the exercise and pure enjoyment of riding a bike. I did not start riding a bike until I was 55 1/2 years old and pushing 265lbs on the old scale..Yup 265 and now 150 ..Shed 115lbs in 8 months and have never put one single pound back on in all those years.. It takes dedication and will power like you can not imagine when you were a fatty and then to keep it off like i did..MOST can NEVER and I mean NEVER do it...Happy camper here

I live in western Arizona, I'll have to start my rides before daylight for the next 3 months but I like it :) I rode 41 miles and was home by 8:30 AM this morn.

Very respectable as well.

I had family in Kingman for a spell, so I used to get over to that area from time to time. A lot hotter there today than here.

Mid summer the best time to hit the road here is 5:00 AM on a Sunday

Deserted streets and ideal temps.

The only caveat is any vehicles encountered will be piloted by a drunk that's been partying all night or someone in a hurry, late for the early shift, and half asleep.

Be really careful passing a doughnut shop!

Fortunately, at that time in the morning you can smell them blocks ahead.

I'm actually not that much of a coffee snob, though I do have a decent setup (Quickmill Anita and Mazzer Mini), but to hear Keurigs being praised as the best anything, for any but the most impatient and least discerning, is a bit much.

Well, I was only praising it for the speed. It's a reasonable trade-off for a quick cup when needed.

Let me jump in here also about being a early rider. Up every morning (7 days a week) @ 245am and clipped into my pedals 0450am just like clock work. My day can not start or function without my early 20-25 mile ride every single morning. Me like most of you also need my coffee to get my started off on the right foot as i honestly do not think i could function without it. Then it is 3 half boiled eggs and a tablespoon of peanut butter and out the door I go.

2 weeks ago at about 0510am in the morning cruising along on a country road with the owner of my LBS I struck a raccoon and ended up really banged up. I have/had 2 cracked ribs, terrible neck sprain, tons of nasty road rash on my right leg and had the end of the handlebar smash the HRM module into my sternum. We managed to straighten the brakes and put the front tire back on the bead and I rode home the 9.5 miles to where my car is parked. We were riding along just about 21MPH and that raccoon tossed me like a rag doll off of that bike. I am ok but still banged and bruised. Missed 3 days before I was able to get back on the bike but very cautious and hesitant. I am 63.5 years old and that was one brutal hit i took..

I been back at my 445am rides but still very tender and spooked of those raccoons ..!

Wow, glad that you are relatively ok.

Critters under wheels... I wish there were some tech solution. Radar guided pellets, whatever.

That's my summer plan, too. I use the time before work on weekdays to take the dogs on a nice long walk, but I'll get up earlier on the weekends for a good ride, or more outdoor time with the dogs. Gotta get out before 5, and I always try to be done by 8. The sun really gets painful after 9.

It looks like next week could be one for the record books.

Yup. And for extra early mornings, it's prepped and I just roll out of bed and turn on the stove.
Meanwhile, as much as I like Sumatra I'm habitually very thrifty at the grocery store - usually end up getting the cheapest Caribbean espresso on the shelf - usually Cafe Caribe, or Cafe Bustelo if it's on sale. :)

The more you ride, the more you increase your odds of something bad happening and since I ride 7 days a week every week, it caught up with me..It really banged me up but feel a heck of a lot better now..

0400 hours, year round 4-5 days a week before work. Love it.

There are worse ways to get injured while riding. Glad it wasn't too serious and that you're feeling better now! :thumb:

I'm not very picky when it comes to coffee. Like I said in a previous post... I'm not above drinking instant/microwaved coffee. IMHO, McDonalds coffee is very good... so is Burger King and Hardees/Carl's Jr.

you've just convinced me not to retire there. :p

I hate philosophy but if someone gets home from their ride before sunrise is it really "The crack of dawn?"

Isn't it "The middle of the night?"

A 5000 watt headlamp at zero dark thirty isn't the crack of dawn. :p
