I've been taking some Gatorade on my rides along with a bottle of water and it seems to be helpful. I bought a big can of the powder (enough to make 9 gallons) for less than $9 dollars. I use less than the package calls for and it tastes pretty good, not too sweet. I stuff a granola bar in my saddle bag too.

It is not recomended to wash down your gels with "sports drinks" as this can lead to dehydration. When you do this water is pulled from the body to equalize osmonic presure. Use water to chas gels and salt tabs down.

E-gel is great. They have a bunch of great flavors. The packets are a little bigger, but they are one of the best value per calorie and are balanced with electrolytes to keep you from bonking (maybe that's a runner's term, i dont know). Haven't tried their E-fuel, but if you use a camelbak then you can add water to make sure you have the right mix of electrolytes, sodium, carbs, etc. Its all on their website...which is actually very informative if you want to check it out. Free shipping and other discounts if you buy online...my referral number is 336623 if you do. I see it in most of the sports retailers around here, maybe because e-gel is based in CA.
