Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

RS10 wheelset upgrade

I had a set of M28X neuvation wheels crack at the spoke holes so I am currently riding on a set of Shimano WH-RS10 wheels.

They're running fine, mid 1800g and after properly truing, tensioning and new bearings they have survived under my 205lbs + bike.

How much would one have to spend to get a noticeable upgrade in the wheel department? Would spending $300-$450on a set of fulcrum quattros or racing 3 or 5 be an appreciable upgrade? The price seems to go up exponentially after that.

Probably minor performance boost from the Fulcrum 3s @ ~1550 gms, and a negligible improvement with the Quattro LGs , or 5LGs. I have the latter two and they're both nicely performing budget wheelsets. I'm almost 50 lbs lighter than you, so not much help in terms of durability etc.

Look into the ROL Volante. Smoother, wider rims, hand built and good for larger riders, cost right around your budget depending on what deals are going on. Great wheels, a tich lighter but much smoother spinning and better build quality.

Another wheelset to consider is Easton Ea90 SL. 1490 grams and 19.5 mm internal width.
