Cheers guys. I'm not really looking for second hand bikes as I've had some not-so-positive experiences with them in the past. Also want this bike to last a while and to build on it.
The Allez Sprint is 2300 AUD here and the CAAD12 is around the same as well. So I think they're off the list. Any other suggestions?

How about a Bowman Palace? Would need to build it up, but a 105 groupset from the UK is inexpensive. Then you can look for used finishing kit and you should be good to go.

It is just a matter of looking around the various retailers you have over there. There is bound to be some deals being the middle of winter and also about to cross over to 2018 model bikes.
You will be able to find something with Shimano 105 and a reasonable frame in either carbon or aluminium.
e.g Cervelo R2 with 105 @ NZD 2500. That is around AUD 2000.

In the days of metal, criterium bikes had higher bottom brackets for safer pedaling through corners. Is there any such differentiation today?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've taken a look at Bike Exchange and I'm considering the following bikes now:
- Merida Scultura 4000
- Giant TCR Advanced 3
- BMC Teammachine ALR01 105
- Specialized Allex E5 Sport
Does anyone know much about these bikes and which ones have the most aggressive geometry and are the best for racing?

I'd wait. Specialized will be rolling their inventory soon to make way for the 2018 models...i believe it's next month when they usually start. Cannondale, I'm not sure of their rollover, but should be soon...

Hey guys,
I'm just getting into road cycling after years of mountain biking, mostly DH. I'm looking for a bike which has aggressive geometry, one that excels at crits and whose price isn't too high, maximum around AUD$200. EDIT: Sorry guys, I meant AUD$2000.

Check out Cervelo S3, second would be felt f5. Best bike for the $$, low and long.

Pretty much my point. An open mold frame/fork could be considered disposable. An Allez DSW SL Sprint Elite lists for $1450 but the frameset alone will set you back $1200, granted in 'imited edition' paint scheme.
And the Elite only gets you 10 speed Tiagra. If off-the-shelf is the way the OP wants to go, the Sprint is a very cool bike. If he has some mechanical ability and wants something better for less money, he could do worse than to buy an open mold frameset (or two, one as a spare).

My Allez Sprint frame set was $800 plus tax. The frame sets come with frame, fork, seat post, headset and bottom Bracket. I see them sell for under $1000 regularly. You can purchase a complete Allez Sprint for as low as $1200 if you shop around.

Or a pretty beefy looking AL framed GT with 105 group 50 bucks more.
After freight and taxes should still leave you some left over

Lovely riding frame - I just built one up, I don't race but the handling is a blast, and just goes when you jump. Could see how it would be perfect for crits, especially with cornering and accelerations. It's not the smoothest ride in the universe, but its at least as compliant as my old Nashbar carbon frame. I think was just under $800 with shipping to US.

Thanks so much peoples of Bike Forums! After much contemplation, I've gone and purchased the 2017 Giant TCR Advanced 3. Loving it so far! Don't really have anything to compare it to though...
