So who here is under 18?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

After reading the thread about the guy's 10 year old completing a metric, I see that there are a few other young'ins on this board. I'm 15 myself, and I thought I was the youngest here, until I saw that someone who posted in that thread was 14. So I'm just wondering who else here is young? I actually wanted to start a road biking club at my high school, but I thought I was the only kid who rode, so it would be hopeless. This brings new hope!

I'm 17 I think I'm one of the few with the energy and willingness to get out there and ride at my school! Most of my friends would rather drive everywhere! I plan on riding as much as I possibly can this summer, when they all outta shape and fat I'll still be kicking butt and riding.

I look, feel and my body acts like I am under 18... but I am 23...

Maybe that means I really am under 18...

You are as young as you feel...

Wow i feel lucky. At my school theres about 15 cyclist. Like racing cyclists. The ages are from like 13 or 14 (there our new cyclist who started this year) to me (16) and i think the oldest is about 17. We had an 18 year old last year. The Massey team has always been kinda big. When I started we had two boys teams and one girls team with 4 riders who made up there own team(boys and girls). Last year and the year before we dropped to about 12 riders but this year we got about 6 new riders. Most family members of older cyclists. Were we all live there is a large group of teenage cyclists at school. On sunday mornings most of the school cyclists get out of bed to do a 16 km team race. I think last week we had over 80 teams. There about 4 or 5 riders in each team.

I have to agree with Ziggarut, I wouldn't have ever guessed you're 15.

Don't give up the bike when you get your license! I know a couple of people that quit in favor of driving and smoking.

lol, funny story. I was on the phone with one of my dad's co-workers and after talking to him for about 15 minutes about Doom 3, I say "Hold on, I'll go get my dad." I could hear him going "Huh? What? This isn't Mark?"

But if you met me in real life I act very much like I am 15 years old. I guess I just don't speak like one.

Don't worry Penguin, I have already decided that the main work my truck will do is hauling my bike around to trails I otherwise wouldn't be able to get to!

Happy B-day!

BTW, you don't want it to feel different. Once you hit the magical age... *WHAM* creaky knees, arthritis, liver spots, the whole shabang.

thanks guys. yeah actually i really don't want it to feel different....it seems like life has gone so fast since grad in....2003 i guess. geez.
whatever, back to school next year though.....the upside of taking a few years off of school to work is that i got a sweet bike...and learned stuff about the "real world" that school will never teach you.
anyways, on that note, i'm off to bed....work in the morning.

cheers

I rode quite a bit when I was younger... then I stopped for a couple years when I got a car... wish I never had. Now I'm back into the swing of things and happier than ever.

I'm 16 and have adopted road biking in the last 6 months, except for the lycra, and organised group rides. Its a quick process, I'm just now learning how to pedal faster, and got clipless pedals 2 months ago. It'll take some time before I bow into lycra though, but thats what I said with clipless as well and got them after 2 months.
