Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2006 Lemond Alpe D'huez

Hey guys, I'n new here so sorry if I'm not supposed to post here. I couldn't find any recent threads about this but how much is a 2006 LeMond Alpe D'huez worth? It's in great condition with all original parts. Located near Chicago, IL.
He's asking 500 but what should I be paying for this / what's worth it ?
Thanks!

$500 is low-to-average in California. You see a few under $500, but not many, and these usually have pretty obvious condition or parts issues.

Still, lots of people ask $900-1000 and up, I don't know if they ever find buyers though, probably not. HTH.

Is the 2006 model a steel bike? I can't look it up due to Bikepedia being down.

Well, I am a devoted fan of Lemond's steel bikes ( I own 4) but was tempted by one of these locally. Reviews and other internet posts of the years spoke favorably of them. They have a carbon fiber rear triangle on top of the carbon fiber fork and seem to ride quiet nicely despite being an aluminum bike which many associate with a rough ride. The one I was eyeing was listed for $500 and available for a couple of months. Don't know if it sold or if the seller gave up. Bike was pretty much mint.

Bikepedia is back up for now so here's a link. The site is really buggy since the upgrade so if it doesn't work try again later.

I've been watching Lemonds locally for a month or two.."locally" would include the Chicago area. The one you're looking at looks like a nice bike. The owner lists it as a 2007..it is a 2006. I see MANY errors in people's ads selling Lemond bikes. I recently picked up an MJ that was listed as a 57cm..didn't look like it to me. I contacted the owner, said it looked like a 55 (my size)..we got to talking, and I bought it (it was/is a 55).

The $500 asking for the Alpe is in the ballpark, from what I've seen. The ad is 16 days old, so it begs for a less than $500 offer.

As Stoheaven mentions, many people ask $800-$1000 for relatively average, lower level Lemonds. No idea if they get any takers. That said.. I saw a custom red-sunburst 2002 Ti Lemond, that was said(and looked) to be in very good condition, go for $400 asking (or lower..who knows) just north of Minneapolis. The ad lasted 3 days..if it was a lot closer to me, it may have only lasted a day..or less.
