Hrmm. I'm 38...does that count as middle aged? And I only wear lycra half the time. And I'm in better shape than most 20 yr olds, so I don't feel TOO foolish.
Is there a "reasonably fit slightly faster than average dork on a bike" category?

No,
I was once a YMIW, then eventually a MAMIL for a while, long before the phrase was coined. Now, I'm an OMIL.

Only 34, so I guess I'm also not MA... And I'm in much better shape than people younger than me (at least compared to Americans).

I'm 50 years old and in a jersey and bibs nearly every day of the week. Draw your own conclusions.

Nearly. I'm not quite middle aged yet.

I'm definitely a MAMIL. I was just wondering, on my ride this morning, whether anyone ever made jerseys with MAMIL printed in huge letters on it? I'd probably buy one.
I'll never be a racer. Doesn't matter. Cycling isn't just about racing. I'll totally own my MAMILness.

I've been calling myself a MAMIL, I'm 59 now. How much longer can I get away with it?

I ride with some MAMILs. It's amusing.
That said, a group of people wearing fluorescent lycra and bad shoes never looks quite right, regardless of the age or body type.

By the way, I am a mammal, not a MAMIL.
I am FAMIS.
Fat Man in Spandex.
That way I don't have to get a new nickname as I get older.
