Tights/jacket repair

Hi Guys,
Went rubber side up yesterday :( but both I and the bike are ok, maybe a little dinged up but otherwise fine. My castelli tights and Gabba jacket on the other hand are ripped with holes that stretch to the size of about a quarter while I'm wearing them. Any advice for patching these garments up?
Thanks!

Take them to a good "seamstress?"

Some kind of non-iron on adhesive fabric patches?
Ironing might melt lycra/nylon fabric...but stitching gonna pucker and chafe, imo.

I have had stuff stitched. If done well by someone with skills it can work. And I doubt a jacket will pose chafing issues.

Rainy Pass Repairs in Seattle. Probably something like them near you, but these folks are excellent.

Glad you are OK Wspsux.

McNetts will have everything you need to patch and repair the Windstop X-Lite fabric on the Gabba including GoreTex patches. They also sell a myriad of other tapes, patches, adhesives and seam sealers for all kinds of gear. Castelli offers crash replacement. I know little about how it works. -Tim-

Definitely take them to a seamstress that has worked with 4-way stretch fabric and has a surger sewing machine for the lycra. I had some bibshorts repaired earlier this year for $25 and they are 100% useable.

I had a couple of smaller quarter size holes like you mention and the seamstress just sewed them up without adding new material - the stretch of the fabric worked to fix any fit issue. For the larger holes she got a piece of used lycra and sewed it from the underside. If you're near a thrift store you might be able to find some cheap simliar material and bring it to the seamstress.

Thanks everyone! TimothyH I'm going to try the gearaid stuff. Looks like my kind of simple fix

Some of the stuff is available at REI and I have seen it at Cabellas.

Please, please let me know how the repair works out for you.

For what it is worth, I've used that tape on Gore-tex rain pants, a backpack, and a tent fly, and I have always been surprised by how well it has worked.

TimothyH has some excellent suggestions, I am going to check this out.

My wife has stitched my tights and some shorts that had gotten ventilation from unplanned asphalt samples. But, my shorts and tights are all black, so the repairs aren't highly visible. No guarantees about patterns of colors in the material and the appearance.

LOL @ ventilation from asphalt samples.

I've used McNett Iron Mend on bibs, jerseys, and even gloves with very good success. Just carefully follow the instructions--particularly iron settings.
