Your Weekend Rides -- March 17/18
Happy St Patrick's Day!
Tell us about your cycling this weekend! Did you do anything special for St Patrick's Day?
How's the weather where you are ... are you able to get out on the bicycle for a decent sort of ride?

Lots of different things this afternoon.
And I rode the bicycle that has a bit of green on it.

Met some riding mates later than usual today, because no one wanted to head out early in near-freezing temps and wind. It was sunny, though, and winds really weren't too bad. Just went up to Nyack and back, and I lead the gang on an alternate route up the east hill instead of taking 9W from Piermont. 45 miles, 2200'
Tomorrow's a big question mark. Winds should be even more calm, but temps lower, and I'm more tired now than I've a right to be.... I was supposed to have gotten some aero bars to try out this weekend, but they haven't arrived. May do a time trial on the rollers anyhow.

41 miles the other day. Joined a local B-group for their 25 mile ride, couldn't hang for longer than 8 miles so I went off solo to finish. Can't seem to get past my 15-16 mph average, and those folks average 17-18 mph. Just enough that within 10 miles a gap opens and they get smaller and smaller in the distance.
21 miles Saturday afternoon. Starting to feel like spring. Felt a bit better and stronger than the past few rides.

Saturday: 50F and sunny with a little bit of wind = perfect weather for March riding in western Wisconsin. I went on a solo single speed ride; 65.3 miles, 3,538 feet elevation.
There were tons of other cyclists out. A few familiar faces
Feels good to hit the roads, even if they're potholed sandy garbage!

Friday -- After work, we did a quick ride up the Cycleway and back, then went to a local Friday evening event during summer: Street Eats! A collection of food trucks gather with foods from around the world. There's a live band and a really nice atmosphere.
So we burned some calories ... then had something to eat.

Sunday -- we've had a wild and woolly Sunday!! At one point earlier in the day, the wind was gusting up to 102 km/h. We waited till the rain and wind had died off so we were only dealing with winds of 28 gusting to 57 km/h, and the temp was about 15C.

Saturday, rode 3.7km to the local certified bike fitter to do a refresher plus adjust my new pair of shoes in preparation for next week's BRM.
Sunday, rode about 24km to the meetup point of a local club ride (effectively adding 48km to a sub-100km group ride). Route was relatively flat heading to the coast except for one optional bump, though said bump is an infamous segment with a short but very steep climb. Most people opted to wait at the bottom; a couple of riders gave up halfway. I got nearly to the top and stopped there -- to some, the lighthouse where I stopped is effectively the end of the climb, though there is still a bit distance up to the locked gate of a restricted facility that some cyclists will continue to ride up to. Ride back was hot. Cooked and barbequed by the sun despite the sunblock.

Max Speed: 48.2km/h

Wound up doing another ride today after all. Was supposed to be many of the same folks as yesterday, plus more. Turned out to be just three of us. Some backed out on account of sub-freezing morning temps and the wind, and a couple who came to the start bailed before we got even five miles. It really wasn't too bad, if one was dressed right. Wind picked up toward the end, and it was a few degrees cooler than yesterday, but it stayed sunny, and not too windy for the most part.
We just did some repeats of Alpine Hill, went to The Market, and practiced a continuously rotating paceline for a bit. I'm hardly an expert, one of the guys had tried it only once before, and the other never had, so it was a bit sloppy, but we managed to make it work for a few miles here and there and I'm sure it helped things go a bit quicker than they would have otherwise.
Including the ride to the meeting point, 41 miles, 2900'

Sunday: Another gorgeous and unseasonably warm March day at about 55F! 35.4 miles and 1,236 ft elevation on the first ladies' road ride of the year.
I was intending for this to be a "recovery" ride, but it was a bit more intense than that. This group might get pretty serious once the roads are clear and everyone is back on their summer bikes!

Just some easy grocery grabbing bicycle riding today. Three separate outings to 3 food stores for 15 miles.
Yesterday was my bigger day with 126 miles. 57 early morning miles beginning at 1:34AM then a short break to warm up, eat a bit, change my kit AND BICYCLE then back out for a second ride under a sun filled sky for the additional 69 miles.
Seriously thinking about getting out in about 4.5 hours for another 100+ miles.

So far getting in some good miles over the last month. Not just limited to weekends but got in a few hours of riding this weekend over Saturday and Sunday. Great weather and nice to be out. I have been getting my bike freshened up with new chain rings, chain and cassette. New bar tape goes on and it’s ready for a new season. I’m ready too ride

Saturday was stormy, so Sunday the best option although cool & cloudy w/ light wind.
Joined the outward leg of group ride. Stopped for flat repair at the base of a hill, & when starting off dropped the chain
while downshifting the front, & toppled over, landing on & slightly tweaking ankle.
Continued on meandering route w/ some good conversations at stops along the way.
115, 7400'.
Lots of cows, raptors.
Oh, 5th day in a row w/ at least a bit on the bike- a rarity for me.

My wife was heading up to Chambersburg PA to visit her brother and I hitched a ride. She dropped me off in Emmitsburg MD and I biked back home to Ashton MD.
Had a few miles of gravel/dirt road riding (actually a few miles extra of that due to a routing hiccup) and ended up doing 57 miles and about 3100 feet of climbing. Temperature was about 40 at start, 54 when I reached home - a nice NW breeze at my back most of the way and not a cloud in the sky - perfect riding weather.

Snow wasn't a problem on Perkins, was it? Riding up the East Hill (Alpine and Demarest) on Saturday, I was surprised how much snow was still on some of the lawns.
You know, the most eager guy yesterday wanted to do Gate Hill, Cheesecote, etc., too, which might have been a Century for him, 75-80 miles for me. I probably would have gone along, but this morning I'm glad we kept it shorter and closer to home: feeling improbably hungover-like. Probably because I shortchanged myself, hydration-wise.

I'm following you now - seems we're following half a dozen of the same people already, two of whom I rode with Saturday! Not surprising, really, but nice to see.

So recently I got myself a Sony FDR-X3000 action cam with the intention of recording some major rides like the upcoming Audax BRM300 this Saturday. I've not done any such thing before, nor do I have any experience in video editing, so I brought the action cam along on my Sunday ride mentioned above for a trial run so that I know what to expect and to get some video editing practice in.
Here's the result from the footage that I had recorded during that ride: Youtube
(edit: weird, there's no way to post the link without embedding? I don't want to bog down the page with the additional widget)
(edit2: oh nevermind, using TinyURL instead of the actual Youtube link seems to work)

Saturday I did the Picnic and Davis Is. loop for 40 miles. It was a bit cool but low wind. Sunday I rode to Phillipe Park via Courtney Campbell Parkway. It was a pleasant day, but my legs were so sore. 45 miles. Bad weather this week will probably keep me off the bike until next weekend.

Yep. It was windy and cold. i did Friday night TGIF Zwift ride took saturday off. then Hounds and Hare race on Sunday. That was kind of a cool race... they start the groups in reverse order so the D's get the biggest head start and the rest chase down the group ahead of them. Keeps the pack together until the very end.
