Is there a stylish way to do high-vis?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Red is essentially indistinguishable from black where I tend to ride.

I have this kit from a couple of years back, for when I'm not in my club kit

From what I can see the answer is no -- and no to the original question as well. Maybe this should have been a poll?

You ride only in kennels... where all the inhabitants see only in black and white?

I ride where there are lots of redwoods. In low light, red is pretty much indistinguishable from black. Bright yellow is about the only thing that works (and blinkie lights).

My approach has been high-viz helmet, and the rest can be whatever you want, stylish or not.

I always found people with a bright helmet stand out a lot, perhaps because the head is the highest up element on a cyclist?

That being said, a high viz jersey stands out a lot as well, but your "stylish" choices might be more limited. Although some good ones have been posted here.

I think the only way to do high viz stylishly is to get one of these in high viz and learn the flip. The website says they are stylish. Doing the flip with one of these would be extra stylish.

Sorry, but that isn't "high viz", its colourway is chartreuse. Obviously.

I'm glad you brought that to my attention. I was going to buy this vehicle just to transport my bike and myself (kitted out in high vis colors) to and from cycling events. I thought it would be stylish in a Retrogrouch sort of way. I now know that would be a terrible mistake.

OTOH, you could put a 12-34 cassette on it to help with the steeper hills.
Can't help with the lousy cornering and handling, tho.

Guys, stay on topic. Hi viz, stylish...remember?

That's how you do it. I mean, how it's gonna be done. The ID Buzz doesn't arrive until 2022.

Hot! Not until 2022? I hope my current sled will hold out that long.
Edit: I just checked the price. Too steep for me. I guess it will be a Sportwagon instead.

If hi vis and stylish means florescent yellow/green then I'm out. Enough trendiness there to look back in 10 years and get a good belly laugh.

On the other hand, I could be persuaded to tolerate this (see below). Orange is still hi viz, yet not so much a part of the rank and file. Although, I like the helmet idea as well as the shoes even better.

Also this. The colors maybe dark but note the reflective piping. It should be even more visible during dusk/dawn under headlights.

A nice, old air-cooled VW -- where's @oldnslow2 ?

The 26.2 sticker on the window had me wonder if that's there to celebrate it traveling that far w/o replacing the head gasket. Speaking of, recently I saw a similar sticker that made me laugh.

That jersey looks like something straight out of the eighties. Trust me, I was there. I had a professor in the early 80's that wore only those colors/tones, except chocolate brown instead of the black. Trends just go in cycles. You'll be looking back on that in 10 years laughing about it just like the Yellow high viz. Wait till you look back at the goofy socks/sock lengths in 10-20 years. You will really be laughing about that.

Corduroy jacket with elbow patches, or no?

It was a female. She always had on a brown knee length skirt and some form of blouse/sweater with those colors/tones and some white. That or a pants suite in the same style. The funny thing was we joked about her being stuck in the 60s/70s. Speaking of pant suits, aren't they back in style?

So rather than something that will look dated in 10 years, you're suggesting something that looks dated now? Oh, and isn't even hi-vis?

I'm guessing that is why fashion trends go in cycles. There are only so many new fresh ideas that exist. Look at the porn stash on the guy wearing the other jersey in his post. It comes back in style about every 20-30 years. I think Custer was rocking it at Little Bighorn.

That's true, I forgot the e. I don't think a porn stash ever goes out of style or stays unused.

If you seem confident enough, then people will believe that your hi-viz kit is so cool.
