Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just a story

A while back I had a free Sunday and decided that I would ride to Santa Barbara and back. The route I chose was a good mix of hills and flats, fairly good roads and not much traffic. As I got to the first climb, I caught up to a group that does an annual tour from the Bay area to S.B.
This is where I can say I always attract the odd characters. After starting the climb, I found myself riding with "Alex". We conversed, exchanged the normal cycling pleasantries and were riding a good pace across Harris Grade.
Out of nowhere, "Alex" says,"I was feeling more fiesty last year. I rode this hill naked. Maybe you have seen the pictures on the web site? I'm the one on the white Kestrel." My pace dropped off after that and I found myself riding with other people. If I saw him on the web, I certainly wouldn't have noticed the color and brand of his bike.
The group was quite pleasant and I ended up being invited to their lunch stop. After that we leap-frogged each other all the way to Santa Barbara. At one point, one of the group rode up beside me and said,"I see that you have met "Alex". I said yes, but I added,"I hope I don't have to hear any more about him riding nude over the grade." He said,"me, too!" We both laughed and moved on down the road.

It can happen other places. When I lived in Charlotte MI (pop ca 12,000), a naked guy stole some videos from the library and made good his escape on a bicycle. And the library was across the street from the county sheriff's office. He got away naturally.
