Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Internet map question

I know about Map Quest, Yahoo Maps, etc. but I'm looking for something very special. Ideally, I'd like to type in an address and then type in a distance and have a map with the distance displayed. For example if I typed in my home address and then ten miles, I would get a map with my home in the middle of a circle with a ten mile radius. I realize that I can just take a map and a compass and draw the circles) on but I'd love to choose a place and be able to drive to it and then have my distance map available. This would also be a great tool to use to plan rides while vacationing, going to unfamiliar areas, etc.

Is anyone familiar with a site that provides this kind of information? Thank you.

You can do that with Microsoft Streets & Maps. But it's not free. I find it very handy and use it a lot.

Check out KLIMB. It's cross-platform and it's free. The one problem is that it takes a bit of work to import the proper maps if someone hasn't already done it for you.
