Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

spandex heat

After many years of wearing baggies on the bike I have finally made the jump to more proper cycling shorts and I'm beginning to understand the benefits of a properly manufactured chamois. Problem is, however, I feel that the shorts provide too much compression and cause some discomfort "down there", as well as getting uncomfortably hot. I'm sure that the shorts aren't too small as I'm only 5'5 and 137 lbs.

Could the problem be due to a fabric that is too supportive or noncompliant. For reference I'm wearing Performance Ultra Bibs (it's an older model however, as I bought them years ago but never started wearing them till now). Would my riding comfort be improved if I bought shorts made of a thinner or lighter weight lycra, such as that found on many castelli's or sugoi's?

Thanks for the help!

From: Might as well be underwater because I make less drag than a torpedoE (no aero bars here though)
The Chamois is there because the shorts can't breathe .....LOL Hahaha (buy some creme to absorb all that sweat they are causing)

They are aerodynamic though.

Nice side benefit of cycling shorts is the option of extra padding to counteract the hardness of a bling race saddle.

P.S. This reminds me of that "proportional Crank length BS" because people can never figure that out either. (not directed at you-statement in general)
