Just finished the yard work and now I'm beating the heat with a little a/c, a sofa, laptop, and a cold ice tea. LOL

Thanks, 661! If you only knew what a heat wuss I used to be! I've lived in Texas for 34 years (graduated from Klein High School, by the way) and still complain about the heat every summer. But in the past, I pretty much went from one air-conditioned space to another. I think my acclimation began when I got a convertible two years ago. I ride with the top down almost year-round if it's not raining (and we don't get that much rain up here in Austin.)

Two weeks before I started my partial commute (I park 6.5 miles from school and ride the rest -- I'm not up to the entire 17 miles one way yet) I bought a trainer, convinced that the only riding I would do this summer would be indoors. But I wanted to ride and riding to and from work seemed to be the best way to get it in with my summer teaching schedule. So I just did it! I've noticed the heat just doesn't bother me as much as it used to.

I say Go For It! :D

Off topic -- if you're still on your sofa at 2 p.m., the Longhorns play Florida for the College World Series championship on ESPN. It's a best-of-three series and the Longhorns won last night. That's how I'm beating the heat today. Hook 'em, Horns!

I just get up earlier... I'm now up at 4am to get the morning rides going. When I get back, it's still pretty cool and the winds haven't picked up yet.

I could feel myself not sweating for a while. I came up to the Habitat House that is on the bike path and went straight for the water fountain. I started sweating almost immediatly after water touched my lips.

I guess I need to carry a third or even a fourth bottle (my bottles are 24oz) Any suggestions on a solution to holding more water. I have a camelbak but theres no way I'm having that on my back for 40+ miles.

I have a wedge seat bag under my seat, and I also have the Profile Design water bottle carriers- slips onto your seat post, and even with my seat bag, there's plenty of room to add the extra two water bottles.

I did 24 miles @ 92 degrees today.. I had my poseur CSC full zip shirt which helped a lot :D.. I passed a few people... Surprisng amount of people out there... I for once did the drink before you want to thing and it helped... 2 20oz bottles during the ride and about the same qty of gatorade after the ride... It was tiring but I wanted to get used to it.. It aint gonna come down anytime soon :(..

When I was out between 5:30 and 7:00 this morning and the temp was 70 deg, I saw not one other cyclist. I did see a jogger though and a couple dozen BMWs going to a beemer conference or something.

95 to 100 degrees yesterday. 62 miles. It was nice.

i find amusing the humidities y'all are posting - it's almost 18:00 here, with a relatively cool 87 degrees and 60% humidity. the heat index is only 94 degrees.

tomorrow should be around 91 with an index of 108, and tuesday should be 89/104.

heat indices regularly hit the hundred and teens plus here, with humidity in the 70 - 90 percent range...

SimpleCycle's humidity in the teens sounds like heaven... even with triple-digit temps. the heat's not so bad - i can stand that. it's the stupid humidity so your sweat doesn't cool you off any that sucks.

anyway, i ride at any time of day... you have to, 'cause it never gets "cool" around here after April/May...

guess about 93F or so, and I got in 63 between 8-12

BTW - did my Double Century (203 miles) a couple of weeks ago with both the temp and humidity
over 90. Started at 5 AM, and finished at 7 PM...needed to stop for liquids often in the afternoon.

Just got back from 50 miles in the in 97 degree heat. The humidity backed off a bit today so it wasn't so bad. I was starting to overheat at the end though. I just make sure I drink enough water when I'm out there. I even broke out the camelbak today. I have the "classic" model, so it's not as though i'm wearing a huge backpack out there.

If being in marching band has taught me one thing, it's that drinking lots of water will let you survive 10 hour days of 90+ heat pushing all that air through my horn AND running around the field hitting the correct spots. I played the tuba, so that's a lot of air to push. I found that the tuba really helped my breathing on the bike when it gets hot like this.
