OKAY, I have been wearing bibs the last couple of months, and I love them. Just got my second set (Both on sale) from Performance.
I see in the ad that the model wears the straps out, with some sort of tight jersey underneath and tucked in. I have been wearing my straps under my jersey. So, how do you wear yours? |
I can't say I've ever seen anyone actually wearing their bib straps on the outside of their jersey. I can't imagine it would be very comfortable with a jersey tucked into your shorts. It's like tucking your shirt into your underware.
Some ads I've seen have the models wearing an undershirt base layer under their bib shorts. Maybe that is what you saw? |
please wear them on the outside!...especially if you wanna have all the posers looking at you with jealousy.
reminds me of newbie surfers who put on wetsuits backwards(the zipper goes in the back?!!), always a hoot. i'd suggest some over the knee tube socks with the bibs too. actually better yet just go with a skinsuit. |

If the ad was for bibs then they would show the straps so we would know that they ARE bibs, not regular shorts. :D
As a first time bib user, I wore the straps under my jersey. And if you wore a jersey under the straps then you would have a hard time using the rear pockets. :) |

The only reason I can imagine that a catalog would picture the bib shorts with the straps over the jersey would be to illustrate that they are actually bibs rather than standard shorts. Actually riding that way would prevent you from using the jersey pockets, as well as making a 911 call to the Fashion Police.

It seems we are thinking along the same lines... ;) |
When I wear a base layer, I typically wear the straps over it and then the jersey on top of everything. My guess is that if the pics showed some guy wearing bibs with a bare chest, it would look like an ad for hillbilly apparel...or some gay men's magazine...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Over a base layer (if worn) and under a jersey.

http://www.performancebike.com/produ...10_5174RDB.jpg Must be an underlayer, not a jersey. My apologies. |

OK, I guess I'm a "poser". Either that or understand the function of the bibs.
Starps should be worn UNDER the jerseay!! Yes a base layor is a good idea (even if you wear shorts). The idea behind the bibs is so you don't get cut in half by your shorts. Some of us with more abdomen than we would like appreciate that. Interestingly, many pros use bibs. They are much more comfortable than shorts, especially on long rides. Bill |

wear the bib straps on the outside and also your underpants over your shorts. as the underware_nazi will surely tell you, wearing underwear 'neath your cycling shorts is a HUGE nono. So please wear these things on the OUTSIDE to be in full compliance.

55/Rad There are NO exceptions in the OCP. If you do it, do it right. |

Using this logic, I think i'm gonna start wearing my underwear over my jeans to keep my wallet and other crap from falling out of my pockets. |
jersey out. . . . but . . . a base layer is a good idea cuz those straps can chafe the nips on a long ride.
|
I've never seen someone wear bibs over their jersey. But summer's still young!
