Helmet strap tan lines . . . what to do about it?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Helmet strap tan lines . . . what to do about it?

It's that time of year again. My face has a quality sunburn going EXCEPT for vertical strap-width paleness just in front of my ears. I would like to say, "It doesn't matter" and embrace the goofy look. But, I've got to ask . . . what do you do about helmet strap tan lines? Fake tan? Grow massive sideburns? Focused UV treatments?

I always ride with a helmet, but yeah, I spend some time outside doing things other than cycling. I don't usually have a helmet strap problem, but it's not unusual to have a hazy outline of the stems from my sunglasses. Oh well.

At some point, you're probably going to want to protect your skin against sun damage. High quality sunscreen works pretty well. I use Neutrogena SPF 70 and don't get any tanlines from straps or anything else. Says you should re-apply after 3 hours but I've been out 5-6 hours and it's still effective.

With an intricate facial tattoo the tan lines won't be noticeable.

Sunscreen if you are spending many hours in the saddle in the sun. I also recommend some form of moisturizer to counteract all the salt and sweat damaging your skin. When I upped my miles to 3500 and did a lot of hiking too, my face felt kinda gross even after washing. After using moisturizer daily for a couple of weeks it started feeling smooth again.

Sunscreen or nothing.
The only thing goofy is why anyone would care.
How do you sleep at night with tan lines on your ankles?
Or do you ride barefoot to avoid them?

Seriously? I hope this is one of those tongue in cheek threads. But just in case the OP is not joking: use sunscreen, use sunscreen! Can’t say this strong enough. If you expect to live pass your 20s without setting yourself up for eventual skin cancer, use sunscreen.

facekini?

from Wiki:
The facekini (Chinese: ???; pinyin: lianjiní) is a mask designed for swimmers and beachgoers which covers the head and reveals only the eyes, nose, and mouth. It was invented by Zhang Shifan, a former accountant from the coastal Chinese city of Qingdao.
The mask is popular in Qingdao, where it is used by people for protecting themselves from tan-inducing ultraviolet rays while in direct sunlight and from jellyfish, insects and other irritants while at the beach. The mask is made of a stretchy fabric that is commonly used in bathing suits, and comes in different colors and patterns. They are often worn in combination with various sun protecting clothing such as body suits with long sleeves, sunglasses, visors, or umbrellas. Facekinis are available in local swim stores near beaches and online.
