Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Bike Help Needed

Hi All

After countless hours of searching the web I'm still a little unsure on which bike would be best for me moving forward.

I have been cycling for my commute for a number of years now on a Carrera vengeance mountain bike, I switched the tyres on it from mountain bikes years ago however, simply walked in to my local Halfords and asked for the quickest tyres that will fit my bike resulting in I think hybrids/road tyres, not entirely sure.

Moving forward as I'm now starting to cycle a lot more outside of my commute I'm wanting to upgrade to a proper road bike.

Questions I have been asking myself are

Will purchasing this road bike I have in mind going to improve on speeds / ride?
Do I need to upgrade or should I stick with what I currently have?

Few stats from my last few rides are:
Distance: 16km
Avg Speed: 29.2 km/h
Time: 32:48

Distance: 42km
Avg speed: 27.6kph
Time: 1:31:20

Distance: 101.66km
Time: 4:12:27
Avg speed: 24.2km/h

The bike I'm currently debating is the Carrera virago from Halfords, upon reading I understand its a low end carbon frame / entry level road bike but come with not the greatest of tyres... this carbon frame wasn't necessarily the reason why I went for the bike, more so my current Carrera bike has been good to me so thought an upgrade to same brand road bike may follow the same path.

A friend recently purchased the giant tcr advanced 1, lovely bike albeit a little pricey, but I wouldn't mind following suit but I do wonder if the bike is aimed more at pro's and more than I need?

Reasons for use of a new bike would be long rides at weekends and 50/60k road runs throughout the week, bike would need to be of course comfortable and one capable of high speeds.

Happy to look at other recommendations.

Thank you in advance.
