Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Topeak Road Morph - How does it clip on?

I'm looking to buy a mini pump that I can actually rely upon to pump my tyres up to pressure and not destroy my valves whilst doing so - the Topeak Road Morph seems to fit the bill nicely. However, my bike has obscenely large frame tubing, hence my question about the Morph's clip - I would most likely affix it beside the bottle cage, but is whatever method of fixing the clip on up to reaching around large oval tubes? Failing that, is the clip zip-tie-compatible?

Cheers

Has a radiator clamp style plastic ring that attaches around the frame. It has quite a large band so it should not be a problem (unless you are trying to attach it to a TT bike downtube or something.

I just got a new Road Morph this week. The clamp will fit around a pretty large frame tube.

Do your innertubes have threaded stems? Mine do, and once I attached the pump to my tube, I had to disassemble the end of the pump to get it off (not a big deal). I have a pair of spare tubes with smooth stems, so I may swap out my tubes so it will be easier to use the pump if necessary.

Except for this little niggle, I'm impressed and happy with the Topeak Road Morph.

Good riding,

I ended up using two zip ties (after stupidly cutting the tie they furnished after putting on the top tube and then changing my mind about the location). I then moved it to a larger tube and used the zip ties - they work fine.

Email ToPeak's customer service. I'll bet they send you a new one gratis.

Don't tighten the metal cap on the end of the fitting too hard, or it compresses the rubber inside, causing it to grab like that. Back off the cap, then screw it down just enough to not come off from vibrations. The Road Morph and the Topeak Universal heads all act like that. Giant makes tubes with threadless valve stems.

The Trek MTB pump mount, that goes beside the water bottle cage, will fit a Road Morph. It's a tad loose, so wrap a couple of turns of electrical tape around the pump tube where it sits in the mount. Get the mount with the velcro strap that keeps the pump in on bumps. Topeak will gladly sell you more pumps, but if you secure it properly, you'll only need one for years and years.

- good pump... got the version with the digital guage, and it's a good companion to my floor pump...

- clip is sturdy and holds the pump in the frame w/no problem...

Forum members,

I have to give Topeak a sales pitch here. I purchased one of their floor pumps years ago and the head failed just recently. I emailed Topeak and received a new replacement free within a week. NO ONE does customer service like that anymore. Topeak has all my bike accessory business from no on!

I can't get my Road Morph to pump above 110 psi (by the gauge on the pump) before it starts leaking air even though it is supposed to pump to 120. I like to ride at 120 psi. Does anyone else have this problem with the Road Morph?

Wow, I didn't find it to be sturdy. On my bike it was held in the middle by the bracket, but flopping around on both ends. I junked the bracket and now hold it on there with a couple wide foam-padded Velcro straps... it doesn't move at all now.

You put the pump on with the little lever on the head down, and then flip it up to lock it. It works just like a floor pump. You also might not be getting the head far enough down on the valve to prevent it leaking. Make sure the metal screw on cap on the head isn't on too tight.
