Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking to buy my first road bike for commuting to work. Distance is about 30km total. I have narrowed it down to these two bikes and am wondering if these are a good option and if so what one is the better bike. I am 5'10

Opus Vivace $600
-Shimano Ultegra parts
-Aluminum frame

Or

Devinci Chicane $500
Recently upgraded wheels (Mavic CXP) and tires (Gatorskin 700x23). New rear cassette (12-13-15-18-21-24-28-32) combined with the 52-42-30 chainrings up front

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am not familiar with either brand but generally I would think the Opus is probably too big. Secondly the gearing doesn't look great if you have any hills. The Devinci seems like a better size and the gearing should handle just about anything.

If you're planning to ride in the rain or will likely be caught in the rain, you might want to consider something that you can put fenders on. They make fenders to fit just about any bike but you need room for them.
