What is going on with Garmin Connect?
When I tried to upload data at about 8 am, I got a message saying they were off-line. Same message at 6 30. So, I can't send my ride data to Strava. Anyone know what's going on?

Not sure what you mean. Is the site down or am I being extorted?
|
Probably Garmin is being extorted. It’s not you. Site down “for maintenance” is the official reason they say.

Thank you. Can I upload directly to Strava?

https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/07/...he-outage.html I'm too lazy to worry, at least for now. We'll see how long it goes. |

Another pandemic shutdown...

It's very easy. Plug your Garmin device into your laptop/pc and go to Garmin/Activities folder. Latest will be today's date for example and a .fit file. Save to desktop. Go to Strava, Upload new Activity, browse for the .fit file and upload it. Job done.

Yes, it's a them thing. Expect the site to be down indefinitely. It appears either their systems are completely integrated everywhere or they are paralyzed with fear, as their manufacturing is down as well.
Maybe by Monday things will be back to (ab)normal. |

A bit more here:
https://www.macrumors.com/2020/07/24...armin-offline/ Kind of weird to see a mostly empty Strava feed . . . |
Is MFA that hard to implement? If it's enabled across the board even elevation of privileges attacks can't do much. I believe I heard at RSA that it takes between 4 and 6 months for a company to realize they've been compromised.

Hacked. My hope is that Garmin encrypted the data at rest, although I am not counting on it. Here's hoping the backups are a) encrypted and b) not hit by the ransomware too.

Didn't think about that..... yeah, all my data from the first ride I did with my Edge 500 circa 2010 is safely stored on my computer with appropriate backups. I never wanted to trust Garmin, Strava, RWGPS or others to have to give it back when I might want it.

Great, does this mean Russian hackers are going to find out how slow I am?
|
As long as I don't lose my history I'll be happy.
|
I would be happier if I hadn't deleted the app from my phone to try to fix it before looking here.

If I don't pay 150 bitcoins, they will publicly post how slow I am climbing hills.

Garmin used to have a windows program that you could load all your rides into, also had mapping and could display your routes.
Good info on what happened here: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...omware-attack/ scott s. . |
