Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Right call.

Our daughter still likes us better alive, but we are going to have to figure out what to do with her and her partner (probably husband by then) when they move back to the US later this winter and need to stay with us until they find a place.

Weddings certainly seem to be a near-surefire way to catch a case

Its an interesting situation for sure. If I were to start showing symptoms at work, coming home would just put my family at risk. My job isn’t going to pay to put me in a hotel, so I have no idea what I would do. I guess live in my mini van? Is it ethical to go to a hotel knowing you are infected? This has sort of been my issue with the whole situation since it started.

Side note I do have camping gear. I guess I could live in a tent until I was in the clear.

Great question; no good answers. Living in a van with pneumonia might be challenging.

Dayton, OH area.

Bonus: Both she and her husband work at the hospital.

I don't know if they are inviting anyone local over for dinner, but the plan is for me (immuno-drugged) and parents on both sides (all 65+) to stay there for the weekend.

What could go wrong?

In more positive news Team New Zealand launched their new race boat. Looks fast. Like 50 knots plus fast. And they got if up on it's foils on its first day of testing, even in light airs. I'd hate to be on a chase boat trying like heck to keep up when they wind it up during training and later the races.

And all my bike **** is down there. We may put them in an AirB&B for a few days and a negative PCR. Of course, statistically we’ll probably be more of a risk to them.

It's much more palatable when it's down by the river.

Test fired the lights and the house is still here. Looks good for tomorrow. Normally they don't get fired up until Thanksgiving night, but since that's been cancelled, may as well let em rip.

We’re not having guests the entire holiday season. I can wait until next year. Sad.

4 of my 5 siblings and I all agreed on a time for a Thanksgiving Zoom call. Since we're spread from the East Coast to the middle of the Pacific, it took a little figuring to find a time. It will be interesting to see if we can pull it off. The last few years, one sibling or another has come to visit at Thanksgiving, but not this year.

I told them that by Summer we might all be vaccinated, and we should all gather at The Ancestral Home (Mom and Dad's house, now owned by the sister who bought it from them) and have a big group hug.

If they're careless or clueless enough to invite, they could easily be careless or clueless enough to take offense to "thinking they're sick".

I also come from a big family, spread out across the country. We had a zoom party for the July 4th holiday and one for Labor Day. We’ve decided to do the Thanksgiving zoom on that Saturday. Lots of fun.
