Hi! I am in the market for my first road bike. I am looking for an all-rounder race type of bike. The owner of this bike is a member of my local cycling club and asked if I would be interested in a bike he has for sale but I am not too sure if it is good. I have been looking at the CAAD13 105 disc, Felt FR 30, Emonda ALR, Canyon Endurace, and mainly aluminum bikes with a 105 groupset. I have mainly been looking in the $1500-2000ish area. Unfortunately, this bike has rim brakes and I'm located in the Pacific Northwest. And the group set is a bit outdated.

Bikes are in short supply, prices are crazy and that bike has been on CL for 25 days. That should tell you something. That bike in the best of times would be worth less than a grand, closer to $750. It's a nine year old bike that can take limited tire widths and is 9 or 10 speed. Also the bike isn't a medium which is usually reserved for 54 cm or there about. Looking at the photos the previous owner has the seat post and stem maxed out which meant it was too small for them. It might fit you but I am not convinced. You are borderline between 52 and 54 and I am thinking more 54. In the end I don't think it is a "good deal" but it is a "good bike". Not convinced it will fit you but maybe it would. My vote is too keep looking.

More to add. That bike has been on PinkBike https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2889540/ since September 2020 and as noted through a pandemic and still no interest from buyers. Last year that same bike, in a 56 sold for $1100 and it had Chris King hubs. Almost eleven months and still hasn't sold means they really don't want to sell the bike at a realistic price.

The bike overall looks in good condition, especially for near enough 10 years old. The 10-speed groupset is a bit of a mix-and-match with some Ultegra, 105, FSA and own-brand brakes. Wheels and tyres are low end.

It's a decent entry level second hand bike, but not for anything near the price they are asking!

I'd stay away from bikes with 2nd generation 10s Shimano (1st gen didn't have the gear cables under the bar tape). Sometimes they're fine, but often, getting the rear shifting to index precisely can be almost impossible, given the short cable pull and amount of friction in the system.

10s bikes can be great value, since you often need a wheel upgrade to use 11s gear on them, and great 10s wheelsets can be found for the price of ordinary 11s wheelsets. But if Shimano, you should probably only be interested in 1st gen (7800/6700/5700) or Di2. If Di2, you probably want to avoid the first Dura-Ace version that uses different wires to the current e-tube standard.

Pre pandemic, I found a Scott CR1 for a mate, without wheels but with Ultegra Di2, for AU$900.
