Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

yellow jersey replica?

I just got a beautiful 2005 Tour de France Yellow Jerjey replica from a friend of mine in France. I love it, but I wanted everyone's opinion as to whether or not I should wear it.

Would it be lame to wear?

Should I just hang it on my wall and drool?

Should I forget about what other people think and enjoy it on the road with my yellow shoes and tires?

If it's a nice fitting jersey, just wear it! Don't worry about what other people think, as long as you like it.

Maybe the bright yellow will keep you safe from cars...

the climbers' jersey would probably work well for that too

Definitely wear it. I think it would be pretty neat to see someone tooling around wearing one of those!
The climber's jersey would be cool, too.

I wouldn't wear it--sorry, just giving you an honest opinion.

Yellow Jersey is something that is earned.

It's definitely a cool souvenir, and maybe you could get it autographed by someone

While I personally would never wear it (nor any predominantly yellow jersey), and I'd probably snicker at someone I saw wearing one while riding . . .if you want to, by all means please do. I'm guessing there's little chance you'll be confused with any actual Yellow Jersey winner so it's not really a big deal.

I wouldn't wear it but hey, go for it.

There's always going to be someone that's going to say something under his breath about whatever you wear anyway so you might as well enjoy it. You can't please everybody.

Plenty of people wear their favorite football payer's jerseys when they play touch football - knock yourself out! They wouldn't make them if people didn't wear them.

I wouldn't buy any team jersey (something about paying money for the honour of being a rolling billboard) but if I was given one, I'd probably wear it.

I wouldn't mind wearing the Best Young Rider (white) or the Best Sprinter (green) jersey. Or, the Polka Dot one, well maybe not the polka dots.

Yes, but would you wear a replica superbowl ring?

I generally have no problem with anyone wearing replica kits. The yellow though is different and I would probably snicker at someone wearing it.

I have one from last year (birthday present). It's my highest quality jersey! I try to save it for special rides (like a century) or exceptionally hot days (because it's very well ventilated).

I have a cheap performancebike jersey thats yellow, I rotate it with my jolt cola jersey and my orange jersey, cause I use it to go to work with.
It's not an imitation of lance, it's just good visibility.
OTOH, I was snickering to my gf today when some guy rode by in a replica yellow jersey, complete with logos and all. I mean, if you're a nice friendly guy, that's cool, everyone'll appreciate it. If you're an ass and likes to taunt and race people, then I suppose they'd find it a turn off.

If you're an a**, you're going to turn people off no matter what you wear. Those Nike Tour de France jerseys (made in Italy) are super high quality. I say go ahead and wear it. I think giving more visibility to pro cycling is great. If the Tour de France didn't want you wearing the jerseys, they wouldn't sell them to you. If Lance Armstrong's team didn't want you wearing their jerseys, he wouldn't sell them either (and they wouldn't change the design every year so you have to keep buying them to keep up to date).

Personally, I just don't wear them because they are so expensive. If they cost $30 instead of $100, I would be tempted.

Not where I come from.
Do whatever you want, I don't ask anyone what should wear, why do people keep restarting this stupid thread.
You should just start a "briefs or boxers?" thread. Of course, the answer is neither under your bike shorts.
The short answer:
25% will think you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth;
25% will think you are a dork;
25% will think you are awesome;
25% won't notice.

I've got one as well and I was a bit apprehensive about wearing it in case people made comments. Then I thought wy the hell should I worry about other people and decided to wear it.

I have to say it is by far the most comfortable and well ventalated jersey I have and generally wear it all the time now.

My honest opinion is that I would like seeing others like you wearing the jersey while riding but for myself, I don't want to call that much attention to myself. That said, I will pull out the old Postie jersey today for a little Lance/USPS/Disco tribute.

I would definately wear it, take a picture of yourself wearing it and send it to your friend, show them you appreciate it. I think wearing any jersey that gets drivers to notice you is good and safer. I do not worry or care what others think. Think about it, you are riding it on the road, not in a race, so who cares what others say?

Just wear it. I know you didn't win the Tour, the next person who answers you, knows that as well, and so on. The person behind you in a group ride isn't going to lean over to his buddy and whisper "Wow, can you believe Lance is actually riding right in front of us!" Buddy answer's "No you idiot, that's obviously Zabriske, what would Lance be doing on this weekly LBS ride!"

Wear it!

Who the heck cares what other's think? There's something not right about being intimidated by what others think of what you wear, or not wear! I suppose guys that ride a certain brand of bike are looked down upon because they don't "fit the mold"! Ride a cheep bike and you're looked down upon....ride an expensive bike and "you're a snob". This is crazy stuff!

Ride what you want and wear what you want...and if people think bad of you for those petty reasons then those are people you really don't need as your friends.

This stuff kills me!

My 2 cents!
