Wireless computers and cadence?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I want a computer with cadence foe beginning race training. That said, is cadence a feature not commonly carried with a wireless comptuer? I did a bit of looking around on the net and most wireless comps seemed without this benefit. Maybe due to the lack of wiring and possibility of 'crossed signals' from two separate information sources?
Any recommendations?

Yes, the Cateye CD300W. Lists for $150, but readily available on eBay for about 90 bucks. They are great. Cadence is not normally a feature of most wireless computers.

CatEye CD300DW, Polar CS200cad, etc. There aren't many choices, and they're all expensive.

Another vote for Cateye's CD300DW. Awesome wireless with cadence, great display, no problem whatsoever. Got mine from Lickbike for $99.

Yet another vote for the CatEye double wireless. The sensor mounts on chain stay, simultaneously sensing a spoke magnet (for velocity) and a crank magnet (for cadence).

I actually just received a CD300DW, but I'm returning it in favor of the Polar CS200cad. It'll be nice to have speed, cadence, and heart rate all on the same device.

I just bought the Polar CS200cad on Performance Bike with the coupon (20% currently on the road tread) and got $38 off. Its also $0.99 for shipping. Its one of the few computers that have everything. The only thing is they are back-ordered until 8/5/05.

Yes, and it can be a couple of seconds, enough to make me crazy. I had a Mavic Wintech for a year before tossing it and getting a Flight Deck. I used the Flight Deck for two weeks and returned it. Both had interference problems, they would start and stop on there own and with the Mavic there was no on or off button and with the FD the on, off button became useless. Why have a computer to track your progress if it only worked part time when you rode? I now have a Cat eye Astrale 8, I don't like the wires much, but I love its reliability of it. It has cadence and works flawlessly and when I'm riding I can't see the wires at all.

Is the Cateye and Polar better performers when it comes to reliability and lag times?

I never owned the Polar but I believe that lag time is common to wireless. I had a wired Cat eye for many years on my old bike, and just never got used to the lag time with the new wireless units. My bike was a year old yesterday and cost me a lot of money, and at the time I couldn't bear to have wires all over it and also figured that "wireless" technology was out so long that the bugs would be worked out, well in my experience there are still bugs to be fixed. I have a Specialized Roubaix Pro and the black wires really can't be seen that easily, so I'm happy with the Cat eye.

1955,
I'm feeling the same way...I have an Orbea just over a year old and just hate the wires even though they are hidden up top. I've been using an ergo brain and really need the cadance and speed option. I also train with a Polar HRM. It would so nice to have them all in one and no stinking wires.

Wireless or not, a cadence meter is always going to have a lag time between now and the next revolution and the computer to calculate the average, that will ad at least two third to three quarter of a second.
Wireless transmission then ads a little.

Seriously, I don't really see how important this lag time. Is it?

Is the lag time only for the cadence or also the speed?

If you have Ultegra brakes then you've got hidden micro switches under the inside of brake hoods that when wired up, will operate the FLIGHTDECK computer by Shimano.

I have the SC-6501 or -6502. Its wireless and cadence is one of the features. I paid $135 for it a year ago. Very nice unit.

Vetta is another maker of the "all in one wireless" computer, spd cad hr. And yes there's a couple seconds lag, deal with it, it's just the way wireless is.

someone wana post that 20% coupon in the affiliate section i can't seem to open the above link
