Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Beth - not sure how you would feel about it not knowing each other yet but I will be coming right through the Hbg area to get to the ride too if you want to ride along. I am coming from State College so will be doing the 322->81->83->283 thing. Just a thought.

Hi, John -

I'll have to let you know...at least one other rider may be going along down with me, so I may have a full van from here (and yes, I do own a van...but don't live along the river )

Thanks for the offer; I'll stay in touch.

Put me in for anytime. I convinced my mother to come as well and she can drive home She will be doing the 25k and starting 'whenever she feels like it' from what she told me.

Ok so who has a flag and a big poll so we can all meet somewhere in the parking lot? I will be in the Forest green, slightly lowered VW Golf shown earlier in the thread.

I'll run around and wave my hands in the air like an idiot. I have no reservations I'll be yelling, "cydewaze! Grasschopper!" and then they'll haul me away

I should have my mission control jersey by then, so I'll be wearing that. I have a light blue Giant and drive a dark blue Volvo. I guess I can make a BikeForums.net banner and hang it up! That'd be pretty funny.

Oh come on man! You know you want to ride to the start from home, then ride back afterwards.

When we get closer to the day, an exchange of cell numbers would be a good idea. Either that or I'm gonna have to put those streamers on my handlebars

By the way...what general pace does everyone expect to be keeping on this one?

Your colleague is right, the only climb is right before the lunch stop and it's not even much of a climb. (I think it was the only part of the ride when I came up out of my saddle.)

Cell phones is probably a good plan. Well if we get this group together and paceline then I would say it will be whatever is prety comfortable for the group. If some want to go faster so be it, they can do their own thing. If Jess comes with cydewaze I would guess a comfortable pace for her will be in the order of 17-20 MPH on the flats but that is just a guess.

Did this last year with my wife. Well run, well organized and lots of riders (I think they said 2800). Not a difficult course - only 1 climb of any note. However, the bridges made it an interesting and fun ride. Lunch was well stocked and a good variety of food. Won't be able to ride this year but I wish you all good weather and hope you have fun!

We'll be there. I'm confortable with any pace, as long as you don't put me out front. Actually, I should have my computer pickup fixed by then, so I'll try to pay more attention to the group average.

Jess can hold 17-20 on the flats, but she's still working on her climbing skills.

Yea speaking of climbing skills...what is the deal...I am way overweight for a cyclist and I was dropping a lot of people on the climbs at the MS150. I guess all the hill work I do pays off?

All Right!!!! My favorite organized ride. I did it last year and loved it. The only problem was I had no one to rid with this year.

COUNT ME IN! I can start any time - the earlier the better.

1. What pace do you people like - I'm not a racer.
2. There's a lot of people at this ride. How will we meet?

Im going to try to make this one too, if my 4 day weekend vacation falls through. Grasshopper, if you live in State College, I hope Argiro, Sleeth, Dann or Zafuto don't see that inspection sticker.

I've been there before. It's not a parking lot - it's a bunch of parking lots. The whole industrial park. We will need some way to find each other - Cell phones would help.

I have a license plate on the back of my bike that says "Mike" I start early and I'm not to fast so everyone gets to read my plate as they pass.
But I think cell phones are a good idea. I'm not sure I want to post my number here. We'll have to do it with provate messages.

Yea, that's good. Private messages will do.

Also, I was serious about making a banner. Unless someone has a better idea other than playing phone tag all morning

No no I was serious too. Maybe a big sheet with a chain ring painted on it and a big BF in the middle of the ring? I dont' know...some sort of banner is a great idea.

I've been there once before but I'm not real familiar with the area. I remember that as they fill up one lot they direct people to the next one. I doubt that we will be able to park together.

After you unload you ride your bike to the start area for registration. All the parking lots empty into one main road that heads to the registration and booth area. I remember a number of booths and a park, a lake with benches. We should be able to find a meeting place there – I just don’t know enough to name one.

Any one else know more about the industrial park? If not I'll contact members of the LBC for suggestions. I'm on their email list,
