First Week Review
So I just finished up my first week of riding my new road bike. Well, I got the bike last friday, a Cannondale R1000, but didn't have a chance to ride that night due to other circumstances. ANYWAYS, from last Saturday to this Saturday was one of the best weeks of my life. Completely forgot getting my sorry a** dumped by the devil/ex-gf a week before, how much I hate getting up at 5:30 every morning, etc. while out on the bike. Truely an amazing experience to float along at 20mph, seemingly effortlessly. Put in 300+ miles in the first week, both solo and with very small groups (one other person twice, 5 others once).
Some random thoughts, in review:
1) Drafting at 20-25mph is awesome. You just pedal from time to time and stay a foot and half directly in back of the person in front of you. Yes, I know I sound like a nerd but man that was cool.
2) Solo rides are good for the soul.
3) It is very important to eat while on medium to long rides. Experienced a feeling at the end of my first ride, a 40 miler, similar to "quad lock" (see: 400-800m track and field races) but without the horrible feeling of oxygen deprivation.
4) Gravel covered roads are the devil's answer to you having so much fun on your bike.
5) I enjoy the harshness of aluminum. Is that odd?
