Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Velo News finally a paywall

It took them a while but it seems Velo News, courtesy of Outside has gone behind a paywall. I guess it couldn’t be free forever but it seemed like forever…

It's been behind a paywall for quite awhile now. Some things were not. But most of the current racing news of any detail and other things have been behind a paywall for years. I haven't been there in a while. Evidently I still have some free articles I can read!

Yeah - Outside bought Ski Magazine and I called and complained because I had prepaid for 3 years of Ski just before they announced the acquisition. They gave me a free year of Outside so I’ve been able to access Velo News.

Not sure I would spend the money going forward though because of how they’ve been obliterating everything they’ve bought recently. Wedging Ski Magazine into an issue of Outside is just one example.

Haven’t been a Velonews subscriber for years. But going way back to the 70’s, 80’s it was pretty much our only source of information regarding what was going on in Europe. And we use to look at the race calendar in the back to find events and plan our season.

All good things come to an end.
