Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sensah Reflex (2x8) shifters w/rim brakes

Sensah Reflex (2x8) shifters with rim brakesNeeding new shifters. Thinking of getting the Sensah Reflex shifters (2x8) in order to stay with present Shimano 8-speed hub and cassette. However, I am concerned about brakes (presently using single-pivot w/aero levers). Has anyone paired the Sensah shifter with rim brakes succesfully? If so which brakes? Any other recommendations? Thanks for your input.

Those are rim brake shifters so yeah they will pair with rum brakes fine.
As for your brake calipers being single pivot, that is a downside and they will not work as well as modern dual pivot. But they will work.

Thanks for your response. I'll go ahead and order. Upon arrival, I guess that I will have to measure the radius pivot point on the lever in order to pair with an appropriate brake set?

I don't know what you are asking, so I can't say one way or the other.

Your brakes are short pull. The levers are short pull. Just pair em together and see how the braking is.if the braking is weak, but some dual pivot caliper brakes and use them instead.
Thars really all that's needed in terms of plannning here.

Thanks for your input. As I understand it, my present single-pivot brakes (Dia-compe) that came with the bike are short pull. The aero levers that came with the bike would also be short pull. If I replace the aero levers (and downtube shifters) now on the bike with Sensah brifters, these new levers will apparently have a longer pull therefore single pivot brakes won't work well.

I'm thinking I'll have to measure their amount of pull on the Sensahs (by measuring the radius from the pivot point of the lever to the cable end on the lever) to determine if I need longer pull brakes. If that's the case, I'm hoping that a newer dual-pivot rim brake would work quite well, since the Sensah 2x8 Reflex levers are made for rim brakes. I'll cross my fingers and hope that everything falls into place.

The Sensah levers should be short pull. They are road shifters and are advertised as being compatible with Shimano road groups.
All that means they should be short pull. If they aren't, that'd be an insane design flaw.

Best of luck with the updating.
