Richmond VA cyclists
I've been back up in Richmond (VCU) for the past few days and will be here for good as of Saturday. I am desperate for some good, medium distance routes/loops (15-40ish miles) that dont have a billion stop lights, and hopefully avoid the roads that seem to be nothing but accumulated patches with no actual asphalt base beneath them. If anyone has any nice rides, please share.

Since you are at VCU, you probably live in the fan. This means you have no hope of finding a ride without a billion stop lights without putting the bike in a car and driving out of town. If you do that however, there are tons of pretty rides around here. Checkout Raba's website for some good maps of group rides.
My personal favorite riding spot is West Creek. I live in the far Fan / near West end and usually take Patterson out to Goochland county (9 miles) and do laps around West Creek (each lap is 6 miles) and come home. This gives me 24/30/36/42 mile options and there are no lights in West Creek and very little Vehicle traffic except around 5pm. If you headed out the same way on Patterson, you would probably cover about 11-12 miles out to West Creek depending on how close you live to VCU and then you could do stop-light free laps out there. I have done 70 miles out there and one of the Richmond stud Tri guys that qualified for Kona, I have heard, does all his training out there and has done many personal centuries just in West Creek.
Additionally, one of my riding buddies lives out in Short Pump and I drive to his house and we do all kinds of options in Goochland and around Manakin that are very pretty, but I only follow his lead and don't really know specific routes.
I have also done a group ride that left from downtown that headed east out canal street and picked up route 5 and went through battlefield park that I can't find anymore on Raba's website, but it was very nice too.
Hope that helps some.
