Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another thing is to always buy tubes/valves with replaceable stems, and buy the little tool and a package of replacement stems. I did that a few years ago but haven't bent/broken another one again! See my post above too.

If you use sealant, it's nice to have extra valve cores on hand to swap in when the current core gets clogged with sealant. Let the clogged core soak in household ammonia solution for a while, brush off any remaining sealant with an old toothbrush, and put them back into the valve core rotation.

Long before removable presta cores (in the '70s), one rider in town (Tucson) broke all his off on purpose. Couldn't see any sense in them. Didn't want to fiddle with 'em.

Every time I've had one break off, it holds air till I try to pump it up. Then, I guess the core gets blown down into the tube or something, but they don't hold air.

I had one that was holding air but when I went to put it back on the bike the movement blew out the stem anyway.

With your experience adding something to your tool kit is rare. I will keep this in mind if I ever go Tubless. Be sure to update your tool kit list...
