How many miles average between flats?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have >2500 miles this year and the only flats I have had were in my basement caused by tearing the stem off the tube (I have had about 4 or 5 of these this year).

Are your flats in the front, rear or both?
What tires do you have?
Do you have a rubber rim strip or a cloth one?
Look where the holes are happening, on the rim side of the tube? Sidewall? Tread area? Figuring this out will help you understand what is causing the flats.
How much do you weigh? If you are over say 190 lbs or so (like me) 100psi might not be enough. I run my rear at 125-135 psi. and I weight 215lbs. If you run your rear too low you will get pinch flats.

I've got about 2000 Miles since my last flat (now I've just jinxed myself). I use the Michelin Axial Pro Race tires and just regular inner tubes (specialized) I think. I always inflate my tires to max psi (110). I think it may be the combination of tires, tubes, psi and roads (in Massachusetts some of the roads I ride are nasty and rough but relatively free of debris.

Exactly what is causing the flats? Are the holes in the tread side or the rim side of the tube?
If you don't analyze each flat you are destined to continue having multiple flats.

More than i should. About 1 a week. I suspect this will occur less frequently as i loose more weight. 1/2 of what i get are pinch flats. The rest is from the crap on the roads. I was getting them alot (pinch flats) on one particular wheelset untill i changed the worn velox rim tape. That helped alot.

Years ago when i was 35lbs lighter than i am now, a flat was a rarity. I wore out tires before tubes.

I get flats in bunches, 2-3 in a month before, but i've been flat free for almost 1000 miles now on Vreddestein Fortezza Tricomps. Ive also ridden over some nasty stuff with these, but most of my luck is due to the great upkeep of the american river trail here in sacramento.
