Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wrench Science closing

Just got an Email from Wrench Science that they are closing down. The model was pretty cool in that you could spec a bike exactly the way you wanted it, and they had a good run. However if my customer service experience was indicative, I can see why they are going out of business.

Anybody want a great deal on a new Wilier Filante SLR frameset, Velvet Red, size XS?

I was looking at their site about a month ago. Sent them an email with a question, never got a response. Moved on. So this make sense now.

No indication on Wrench Science's website.
About a year ago, I contacted WS as it was one of the few places that could get a Basso Astra, but even WS could not get the 0 offset seat post that would have been a better fit for me.

I bought a Wilier Filante SLR from them in the summer. I spec’d an XL frame on their website. I completed the sale directly over the phone. They ended up shipping me an XS.. Apparently my online form never got saved, and I failed to notice on the invoice, their description of the frame., which was a stream of consciousness set of numbers, neither XL or XS. Their only resolution was to offer to sell me a new frame at a discount, and put the XS frame on consignment.

They never sold the XS frame, and I’m left hoping that they do actually ship me the frame now.

In hindsight, it was a sign of a sinking ship.

Damn, that sucks. That frame color is fantastic, I wish it fit me, I would be interested.

I've looked at them from time to time when considering a Wilier build but never pulled the trigger. Thanks for the HU.

I reached out a couple years ago. The filante had just been released and I wanted it bad. I can’t remember the complete build, but right before I pulled the trigger I was informed that it would take 9-10 months. Left over delays from the parts shortage. I don’t have patience, and no changing of compensate was going to make a difference on delivery time so I didn’t go through with it.

Back then they were always quick to respond, and you could actually talk to someone on the phone.

Do you have it in your possession? If so, can you post pictures and size measurements?

The size is an XS. Here's a link to the Geometry/ measurements Filante SLR - Racing Road Bike | Wilier Triestina

Reach is 380mm, Stack 508mm, Effective top tube 51.5cm, Seat tube 43.5-45 cm depending on how you measure.

Wiler's sizer recommends it for most people 5' to 5' 4"

Curious, if you got your Colnago, the rumor I heard was WS is heavily indebted to Colnago, and that was what put them under.
