Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Blue Ridge Extreme

Anyone crazy enough to consider this?

This from the Official Web Site:

Date: August 28
Place: Afton Mountain VA

After a highly successful first year, The Charlottesville Racing Club is proud to present the second annual Blue Ridge Extreme Century. The Blue Ridge Extreme is a highly difficult extreme century challenge event loacted in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of central Virginia. Boasting three routes with distances of 32, 62, and 102 miles, this event is certain to test even the most seasoned cyclists. The grades in the Century and Metric Century routes can be quite steep at times, up to 18% in places, and triple cranksets or rear cassettes with at least 27 tooth rings are highly recommended.

Looks like fun. I'll have to think about it. There's certainly some nice scenery around Albemarle County.

I've decided to ride it this year. I ride many of these roads on a regular basis and it will be a nice route - challenging but nice. Also consider the Tour de Valley the next weekend (Sunday of Labor Day weekend). Our club sponsors it and, while not as challenging, is still a nice ride.

I am going to do it. It would be cool if they listed your time and your place, like they do at Mountains of Misery.
