Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have unretired!

Howdy all, I have unofficially unretired from road cycling. The last time I rode road was in 1992 on my '88 Raleigh Technium 460. I was in High School then. What type I'll be doing, I don't know, but I have unretired. I bought myself a used early 90's Bridgestone RP-2 (at least I think that is the model, I'll correct with picture posting) for $100 at an LBS. I know there is better, but it is all I could afford at the moment. I hope to buy new in a year or so, but this one will do until then to get myself back into road cycling. I've been MTB'ing it for 3 months now (and will continue), but I'll add roadieness to my cycle. I can't MTB it everyday since the trails get muddy after rain (and an MTB stinks on the road). I'll post pictures and specs ASAP. Anyway, it feels good to be back!

Welcome back! Another born again cyclist here, dropped off early in HS and now some nine years later I'm back in the saddle. Enjoy the Bridgestone.

Ok, here it is. It is a 199x Bridgestone RB-4. It feels good to have the wind in my face again.

My HS rodie was an '86 Raleigh Technium 440 but didn't drop cycling untin post Colledge when I started to have kids. Up until the first I was comuting to work.

Good to have you Back. Do you still have the Raleigh? Mine is in the garage waiting for a paint job so I can puss the frame on to my nephew.

Does that thing have an official name? Or is it like those things on the end of your shoe laces (i.e., they have a name, but nobody knows/cares)

The disc helps increase the aerodynamics. The official president of OCP(patriot) has one on his bike.

I have an overhaul planned for this weekend, and that is one of the tasks I have on my checklist.

Unfortunately, I don't. During my seminary years in Dallas (The Criswell College), I loaned it out to a kid in the projects who wanted to ride with his friends, and he took it curb hopping with them Well, with the bent up wheel, he just left it out, and well, you know the projects
