I assume this doesn't belong in the C & V forum and (I think) it was marketed as a road bike. I solicit and build up bikes for an organization that serves unhoused people in Southern Indiana. Infrequently, I get a road bike donated. These aren't a great fit for our clients due to the skinny tires and Presta valves. I have been successful in trading some of these for MB's or hybrids, which are better suited for urban combat situations. I received this bike as a donation and am going to try to trade it but I want to get the best deal for the guys that get the bikes. I tried to look this up but am not having a lot of luck so far. What I'd like to know is the age range, whether it is "desirable/collectible for any reason, and a rough market value. This will let me know what to ask for in trade. I assume this came with the flat bars? Condition of the bike is cosmetically very good, click shifters work good all through the range, brakes work fine, wheels roll smoothly. The only thing I have found is that the chain is worn out of spec. Thanks!

Old Giant hybrid may be worth a couple hundred bucks at most.

Thanks for the prompt response. The value of a normal donation would be much less than this. 90% of the donated bikes are box store bikes that have something wrong with them, so this looks like a gold mine in comparison.

I would call that a "flat bar road bike" more likely than a hybrid, but that's largely down to semantics. It's probably from somewhere around '07 - '09, I think. I also agree $200 would be fair.

Yes, when I was trying to research it I think I saw that phrase. It has 700 x 25c tires on it but it looks like it has a lot of room for something larger.

Exactly; where is the arbitrary line between “hybrid,” “flat bar road,” “drop bar MTB,” “city bike,” or anything else? Is it about bar type and tire size, or gearing and geometry, brake type or saddle thickness? I think it’s more about consumer expectations than anything else, so sell it as the category with the most appeal, or more specifically, with the highest perceived value.

The FCR line was not a huge success for Giant. Our shop sold a few of them, but the Defy greatly outsold the FCR, because at that time a flat bar road bike was not something everyone was looking for. Drop bar road bikes were far more popular. That being said, the FCR 2 was a solid bike. Unfortunately in my area of the world this is a $200 or less bike. If it had 38c tires on it, then it might bring a few more dollars.
