OSPWs

Yes, I know it's bling, and won't do a thing for my riding, but if one were to buy an oversized pulley wheel product, which one would you buy and why?

TMonk 06-03-25 10:43 AM

Ceramicspeed is the premium option. Kogel is a great brand too, US mfg'd, offers nice colors and stuff.

I will eventually replace the RD cage on my TT bike with a OSPW system. I recently replaced the RD jockey wheels on my trainer bike (11s 105 rear mech) with Kogel. Went through their customer service chat and had a great experience.

Agree with CeramicSpeed. It's a bit poseur but if you want it, why not? If you are going to do it, do it right.

The red one. Red is always the fastest. Duh.

Red won't go with my baby blue bike. :(

Your choice to be slow, I guess.

That said, guys who ride baby blue bikes are the manliest of all men.

God damned right!

If you have an 11-speed short cage RD, this one: Ceramicspeed OSPW Aero Shimano 9100/9150 and 8000/8050 Coated – Bike Closet

I do, but on a non-aero bike with endurance geometry. At $150, maybe I will buy and install one just to be contrarian.

They wanted $800 for that?!

I had OSPW envy until I purchased my 12 speed SRAM red equipped Specialized SL-8. And the shifting is flawless after 4500 miles. My advice is make sure the OSPW mod does not impact the shifting and go from flawless shifting to yeah it works most of the time.

Agreed. Mine is Ultegra 12-speed Di2, and the shifting is pretty sweet.

Ran into a guy on a pink road bike, wearing pink kit with a pink helmet. Talked to him about the 80s bright colors coming back, but he was probably born in the early 90s. He stated that he likes bright colors and the increased visibility. He definitely was straight. Now that takes confidence. A lot more than I have or ever will have.

How much should ones overall bike be worth before putting a $1000+ pulley cage on it?

I can't even believe that I just typed "$1000+ pulley cage".

It does not matter. Having one of these cages shows that one is serious about going fast. Just like a Honda Civic with an Apexi Dunk exhaust and Michelin Pilot Cup tires, where the exhaust and the tires are worth more than the car.

Aaah, like the glue on hood scoops I see on old Toyota Corollas.

And how many of those actually get tracked. Often shows you’re serious about posing.

This is EXACTLY. What MikeDeason needs in the XXL version. Then street racers will know he is serious and not laugh and kick sand in his face.

Might as well install a micro-spoiler while he's at it, keep maximum traction in the rear to harness all those watts.

Hilarious! 😂

Did you buy one?

No, I'm still fine tuning the Di2 system on the new bike (had some issues with E-Tube that I just got fixed on Sunday), and then have to complete my Domane rebuild. Then, my wife wants me to do some things to her Cervelo. So, I'm likely a little ways off.

Even the aero one that works is "only" $150, the shifting is already not 100% on my bike, so I took your advice above.

Something that is mid pack like NovaRide. A Ceramic Speed is obviously the most name recognized OSPW and beyond the miniscule watt savings you are just buying it because it says Ceramic Speed. Kogel makes good looking OSPW that are cheaper, but IMO for $350 before discount code the NovaRide CCD EVO will give all the bling you need while providing you those marginal gains, but not having to buy a cheap Alliexpress OSPW.

IMO the better play is just buying oversized ceramic jockey wheels. Much cheaper with basically the same benefits and stupid easy to install. I did BBInfinite oversized jockey wheels for SRAM at $130 shipped with a $20 coupon. No need for a new chain since it works as long as your chain was properly sized from the start

I put those BBInfiniti jockey wheels on a 11-speed bike that is now gone. I agree, much cheaper and no downsides. May end up doing the same one day.

Gilberto Simoni had a couple of all-pink bikes built up for the closing stages of one of his Giro wins. A bike shop in Little Rock, where I used to live, had one of these pink pair up on the wall (the shop owner was a bit of a collector) - except that it’s way too small, I’d have no problem riding that pink bike - anyone had a problem with that (and certainly in Arkansas, there would be some who would), they could kiss my arse 🙄

In the 80s, as you know, fluorescent colors were the rage. Hot pink, green, green/yellow were everywhere. My Fondriest from the era wears all three plus bright blue. During that time I had a T-Mobile jersey with a matching hot pink zebra stripe insert on the sides of my shorts. Quite colorful.

The only legit question here is, "does a flat top chain make you faster?"

I am going to say "yes" because a guy I know has one and he is definitely faster than me. Has to be the chain, what else could it be?
