Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fasten wheel concept

What happened to Fasten, the super slick wheel concept? It got some press back in 21, no not 1921, 2021, and then it disappeared.

Big Bike often gets accused of trying to sell a solution to a problem that doesn't need solving, this particular time I feel the accusations were justified.

Fasten wasn't a Big Bike thing, but a real solution for racers using thru axles and disk brakes. Guess it would not have been good for the marketplace for full adoption.

All sorts of things might have happened. It might not have been all it was advertised to be. It may have been to much additional manufacturing cost. It might be he wanted too much licensing fee for his idea.

And flats don't seem to happen as much anymore as they use to. So less reason to change wheels.

The problem with this is that you have to adopt their hub AND adopt their dropout configuration. Which means you are limited to wheels that can be laced to their hub and your frame can't take normal wheels.

Imagine telling the industry that you have a new stem concept and all everyone needs to do is change their frame, fork and headset design to your standard so this solution, that no one was pleading for, can be implemented.

And, what do you do it you want to drop your wheel because there us a problem with you cassette or disc? Now those things require tools. So the invention is very limited in what it solves
